Chillin' with Dylan—Soccer: America’s new fave?

July 9, 2014

By DYLAN MALONE
There seems to be a shifting tide in sports happening right before our eyes.
Think about what you were watching on sports television last year around this time. I can’t tell you how many times I got tired of hearing about football and who was holding out on their contracts or getting arrested in the pre-season.

Chillin' with Dylan—Why the NBA is relevant still

The NBA draft is tonight starting at 7 p.m. and it got me thinking just how far the Association has come in rivaling football.
The marketing of both sports have really set the bar when it comes to a 12-month schedule of sports and how much we think about them. When the football season is over, fans revel in the aftermath of the Super Bowl and the celebrations/parades that go on with that.

Chillin' with Dylan— Changing the Redskins name?

June 19, 2014

I knew this would get enough steam eventually.
The NFL professional team in Washington officially has the world’s attention with their name “Redskins” and a movement has been brought forth to change it.
This is something I’ve tried to keep an eye on for some time and the gauge for which I analyze this particular case may be a little different than other cases similar to this one.

Chillin' with Dylan—Today’s busy sports slate

First of all, giving credit where it always seems to be due, Bellmont girls track has turned another successful season in to the history books and it can’t be overstated.
In the last few seasons, it has been amazing to watch the program flourish with a combination of leadership, teamwork, and an abundance of good genes. These girls have worked so hard to make this school a respectable program despite it’s small size by comparison to perennial powers like Carroll, Homestead, and Northrop.

Chillin' with Dylan— Summer time, summer time...

If you are over the age of 25 it is no secret just how fast time flies.
This May was no exception as it seems like yesterday I was in full swing covering three high schools with very full sports schedules.
Part of the swiftness had to do with the early exits from all three schools in softball and baseball. I think we as a community were spoiled by the recent success of Adams Central and the Braves’ baseball teams.

Hop's Heresy—Bellmont’s invite to team state

June 3, 2014

Apparently, Bellmont's wrestling Braves are GOOD ENOUGH.
It was announced recently by Trent McCormick, President of the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association (and Yorktown mentor), that Bellmont has been invited to participate in the third annual coaches association dual team state tourney.

Just a Thought — Government broken? There are options

May 30, 2014

Scandals, unemployment, poverty, education ... turn to any news channel and it would seem the negativity surrounding our country is nearly inescapable.
A recent Gallop poll revealed 65 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the nation’s system of government and how well it works. I  think that figure is low, based solely on my own little slice of the American Dream.

Kickin' it Around — Raise the minimum wage

May 29, 2014

By MIKE LAMM
Earlier this year in his State of the Union Address, President Barack Obama strongly endorsed raising the minimum wage, calling for an across-the-board increase to $10.10 from the current $7.25, a rate which has not changed since 2009.

Alone With J — Tout it, and they will come?

May 29, 2014

On Sunday, hundreds of Adams County seniors will receive their sheepskins, culminating their long and challenging high school careers. They will head off into the world of adult-dom, pursuing gainful employment or taking a few months off before hitting the books this fall at the institution of higher learning of their choice.
