Tonight the Stars and Squaws end their regular season at Bellmont in a county-rivalry game that doubles as the Squaws' senior night. The varsity contest is set to begin around 7:45 p.m. with the broadcast set to start roughly 10 minutes before tip-off. To view the game, click one of the links below. Farlow leads Stars in swim sectional prelims

CADY’S MISSION— South Adams’ swimmer Cady Farlow helped the Starfires place first in the preliminaries of Thursday night’s sectional swim at Jay County taking gold seeding in the 100 Free and part of the 400 Free Relay race. With Jay County seeded first in nine of the 12 events, South Adams is second and right on their heels with silver seedings in the Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly, Individual Medley, and the 200 Medley Relay race. Stephen Decatur award highlights chamber fete

    It was an evening of celebration at the annual dinner of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce as local business leaders gathered to recognize a few of their own Thursday night.
    The most anticipated award of the evening, the Stephen Decatur award —so named for the city’s namesake, naval hero Stephen Decatur — was awarded to Kelly Ehinger, director of the Adams Public Library System.

Monroe council sets publc hearing on proposed utility rate increases

    The long-awaited water and sewage rate hike in Monroe finally has a hearing on the schedule. After announcing rate hikes would be coming at the Nov. 6 meeting of the Monroe Town Council, council president Al Lehman spoke about the plans Thursday at the council’s regular February meeting.

Decatur City Council meetings to be on YouTube

    Decatur’s new city hall is bringing about some new services to be offered, several of which were debated at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
    With all the technological features in the new building, all council meetings are now recorded and will be available to the public on YouTube within a couple of weeks.

    Decatur’s first bid for a Stellar Communities grant wasn’t successful, but one of the projects in its bid is moving forward.
    City council on Tuesday night authorized providing $2,500 to the Decatur Main Street group to fund a survey of the Five Points intersection — which in the future could possibly become a roundabout.

Terveer named St. Joe ‘Distinguished Graduate’

    In honor of Catholic Schools Week, St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Decatur honors volunteers who have made a difference in the school and community.
This year’s Distinguished Graduate is Dave Terveer. He graduated from Decatur Catholic in 1942. Terveer was hired at Decatur Catholic to teach social studies and health and safety in 1948. He is the father of three children — Mike, Liz and Pat, all of whom attended St. Joseph School.

Whitright seeks 5th term as Decatur clerk-treasurer

    Phyllis Whitright has announced her candidacy for a fifth term as clerk-treasurer for the city of Decatur.
    Whitright, a Democrat, is treasurer of the Decatur Redevelopment Commission and the Decatur Main Street organizational committee, a board member of the Adams County Commission of Public Records and a member of the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers.

School closings and delays

 8:32 a.m. LATEST UPDATE: North Adams Community Schools, St. Joseph Catholic and Wyneken Lutheran Memorial schools have now closed for the day. South Adams is operating on a 2 hour delay and Adams Central is now running on a 3 hour delay. In neighboring Ohio, Parkway Local, Van Wert City Schools and Vantage Career Center are on a 2 hour delay while Crestview Local is now running on a 3 hour delay. Jay County Schools are running on a 3 hour delay. Northern Wells, Bluffton-Harrison and Southern Wells are now closed. We will update this information as needed.

Options discussed for old Decatur City Hall

    Decatur now has two city halls and it is proceeding on unloading the previous structure.
    Mayor John Schultz said at Tuesday night’s city council meeting that two appraisals of the value of the building have been received: $53,000 from Steve Kreigh Enterprises of Decatur and $75,000 from Complete Appraisal Service of Bluffton.
