Larry L. Gates, 78, Geneva, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2014.
Carl Lee Hoopingarner, 81, Decatur, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital. Lee was born in Uniondale Jan. 11, 1933, to the late Carl and June E. (Brentlinger) Hoopingarner. On Dec. 20, 1953, he married Patricia J. Mitchell.
Lee was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees and taught Sunday School.
Richard L. Sanford, 47, Decatur, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at his residence. Richard was born in Chicago, Ill. Dec. 16, 1966. He married Tammy (Kable) April 27, 2012, she survives.
Richard attended New Beginning Faith Center.
Among survivors are his mother, Laura Martinez of Chicago; a daughter, Alexis Sanford of Chicago; three step daughters, Sheena Price, Amethyst Price and Heaven Price, all of Decatur; a brother Danny Sanford and a sister Diane Silwa both of Chicago.
Robin L. Berry-Schmidt, 49, Wren, Ohio, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014.
Among survivors are her husband, Paul Fredric Schmidt, Wren; father, A.J. Berry of Decatur; mother, JaneAnn (Dale) Uhrick of Bluffton; son, Jacob Schmidt of Bluffton; two daughters, Vivian and Victoria Schmidt, both of Wren; two brothers, Quintin Berry of Decatur and Joseph Bollinger of Bluffton; sister, Miranda Berry of Bobo; and in-laws, Larry and Diane Schmidt of Bryant.
Destiny Kennedy is like many other 4-year-old girls. She likes playing with her brothers and loves watching princess movies.
There is, however, one thing that sets her apart from other children her age. Destiny has a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma — in layman’s terms, an inoperable brain tumor.
She recently completed six weeks of radiation at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. She will return in January for her first round of chemotherapy.
Monroe Town Marshal Dio Hernandez has submitted his resignation from that post, effective at year’s end. Hernandez has accepted another employment opportunity in western Indiana.
Monroe Council President Al Lehman said the town is “looking into some things” regarding law enforcement in the town. He said applications for the position are not being accepted at this time. “We need to keep in mind that we have coverage in Monroe” from the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, Lehman said.
Parking was the main area of discussion at Monday morning’s work session of the Adams County Commissioners, specifically as it pertains to a proposed new superior court in Decatur.
