All four Decatur teams advanced in the quarter-final round of the Hoosier East Baseball Alliance Mays Tournament, held at three sites Thursday night.
In Decatur, Decatur Dental Service scored five runs in the second inning, but still had to come from behind to nip Box and Pallet of Monroeville 9-7, and Hull Lift Truck exploded for a 16-1 in over the Fleming Rays (Monmouth). At Monroeville, league champ Kintz Insurance downed the Monmouth Cubs, while at Monmouth, Bixler Insurance, the second seed, bounced Heyerly's Ice Angels 12-2.
Louneta Bixler, 90, formerly of Monroe, died Tuesday at Woodcrest Retirement Community in Decatur.
She was born on October 25, 1920, in Adams County to Osia and Mathilda "Tillie" Von Gunten.
Among survivors are two sons, Sheldon Bixler of Fort Wayne and Von Bixler of Decatur, and one daughter. Mrs. Rick (Raelene) Hirschy of Monroe.
Martha V. Eicher, 102, of Berne, a member of the chorus for "Messiah" performances at First Mennonite Church in Berne for more than 65 years, died on Wednesday in Swiss Village Retirement Community.
She was born in Adams County on April 21, 1909, to Emil and Pauline Leichty Eicher.
Among survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Walter G. (Helen) Fox of Berne and Mrs. Syril (Mary) Bruns of Alexandria.
The Decatur Dirty Birds baseball team downed the Warsaw Indians, 5-0, at South Bend recently to take over second place in their conference. The Birds bested the Indians 2-1 in a three-game series.
Ryan Leugers got the win, beating former minor league hurler Adam Augustine, who only lasted four innings. Leugers went seven innings, with two strikeouts and one walk. Ian Clay threw two innings of scoreless relief for the Birds.

The United Steelworkers will open the H.E.B.A. Clemente tourney tonight versus the F.O.P. Cardinals at 6 p.m. at Monmouth. The winner will play top seed Bleeke Electric on Friday at 6 p.m. at Monmouth. The V.F.W. Orioles will meet Murphy USA in the second game at 7:15 at Monmouth Friday.
In Decatur games, slated for Field 4, Haggard, Sefton and Hirschy will meet SportForm at 6 p.m. Friday in a rematch of their extra-inning affair from Wednesday, and the Grover Co. Indians will meet Adams Memorial Hospital in the 7:15 p.m. game.
Halle Williams-Seip, daughter of Decatur residents Ciera Williams and Nick Seip, is one of two honorary co-chairs chosen by the Adams County Relay for Life Committee to walk the first lap at this year's event at Adams Central June 24-25.
Halle, who is now three years old, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma just weeks after her first birthday. Medulloblastoma is a rapidly-growing brain tumor that originates in the cerebellum.
Adams County's annual Relay for Life will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday and continue through 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.
For the third successive year, the event will be held at the Adams Central football field.

With an estimated $4.5 million to $4.6 million cost for what is proposed as the first city-county building in Adams County history, paying for it is a major matter.
At a two and a half hour special meeting of the Adams County commissioners on Tuesday to unveil the plans, and the reasons for such plans, Todd Samuelson of H.J. Umbaugh and Associates, an accounting firm in Plymouth, reported on how financing might operate.
"It's going to be really tough," said Bellmont grad Dana Kaczmarek on letting go of the competitive athletic career.
"I cried more the last day at softball ... more than at graduation," said the 2011 Phyllis Hebble Award winner. The Hebble Award, named in honor of the first Bellmont girls coach in about every sport, goes to the outstanding female athlete at Bellmont.
Cordell Cornett struck out 14 and the Monmouth Fleming Marlins held off Decatur Dental 7-4 to earn the top seed in the Hoosier East Baseball Alliance Reese baseball tournament, which begins Friday.
Dental did sock 10 hits off Cornett.
Lucas Strickler took the loss, striking out 5 with 5 hits allowed in four-plus innings. Jordan Baker struck out 4 with 2 hits allowed in a strong relief appearance.
