Ermil Shifferly, 89, of Decatur, died on Thursday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur.
The Bellmont Boys/Grils Soccer Jamboree will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the BHS Soccer Stadium with the Bellmont girls taking on Garrett.
Admission will be $5.
Each session will be 20 minutes, and there will be a 10-minute break between the 13 sessions. The South Adams boys will take on Bellmont at 3 p.m. in the final session of the day.
First team listed is the home team and will have the ball.
Seth T. Curtis, the 25-year-old Redkey man charged with six crimes in regard to a robbery attempt last Sunday at the CVS store in Berne, has been arraigned in Adams Circuit Court and was set for trial on December 2.
He is being held in the Adams County Jail under a $100,000 bond on the following charges:
• Attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, since he was allegedly carrying a pellet pistol, which is classified as a deadly weapon, according to Adams County Prosecutor Chris Harvey.
A proposed budget for 2012 of more than $10.5 million for Adams Central Schools will be advertised publicly, given approval by the AC school board on Thursday night. Board member Mike Brown was absent.
The proposed budget of $10,519,216, which will likely be reduced by state officials, includes these 2012 subtotals, with the actual subtotals for 2011, after changes by state finance officials, in parentheses:
General Fund — $6,900,000 ($6,501,725).
Joan Catherine Davis, 80 years old, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 11:35 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2011, in Lutheran Hospital, located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was born on Sunday, May 3, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph Dixon and the former Mary Krick.
Linda L. Ross, 64, of Fort Wayne, died at 10:15 a.m. Thursday in Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home of Fort Wayne after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born on June 19, 1947, in Shelbyville, Indiana, to Charles and Martha Miller Glackman, who are deceased.
She married Larry A. Ross on September 11, 1972 in Fairland, Indiana; he survives.
She and her husband were the owners of Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises, including the one in Decatur, for more than 25 years.
The new Villa Lanes will conduct Youth League bowling registration on two dates: Friday, Sept. 9, 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
Decatur's long time bowling center closed three years ago. Local business men purchased the business recently and hired Mike Miller as the new manger. Renovations have been ongoing and the upgraded house is slated for a Sept. 1 opening.
Youth divisions will include Bumper, Bantam, and Junior, ages 5 to 20.
The Bellmont Girls Golf Invitational was captured by Norwell Wednesday at the Cross Creek Golf Course with the Knights taking just 381 shots to outdistance second place Canterbury with 393.
Finishing in third place was Angola at 400 as they squeezed out fourth place Bellmont by one stroke at 401. Other participating teams included Bishop Luers 416, and Leo 435.
Two people, possibly in their 60s, died in a house fire early this morning at 720 Elm St. in Decatur.
Decatur Fire Chief Les Marckel reported at the scene that the bodies were so badly burned that it will take an autopsy, which was under way today at the morgue in Adams Memorial Hospital, to determine the sex of the victims.
No children lived in the home,. Two dogs also died in the blaze.
Dan Hood of ASL Testing based in Elkhart was on hand at this week's meeting of the South Adams Schools Board to discuss the process of random student drug testing.
