Jet track boys roll with 8 blues

    The Adams Central boys used eight blue ribbons to outscore Woodlan and Bluffton to win an ACAC three-way meet Tuesday, while the AC girls scored seven firsts and added nine second-place finishes to win that three-way meet.
    The AC boys tallied 68 points to the 60 of Woodlan and 28 of Bluffton.

    As flooding worsens in southern Indiana, the St. Marys River remained steady in Decatur ... but that could change as the rain continues to come down.
    The St. Marys stood at 16.4 feet here at 7 a.m. today, a slight dip from the 16.7-foot reading of 24 hours earlier. The river was measured at 12.5 feet on Monday morning.

Wellness event coming up Saturday

    The Adams County Winning with Wellness Committee will hold its first annual Winning with Wellness event from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. this Saturday at Adams Memorial Hospital. 
    The event will follow the 5K Run Over Violence race and will feature fitness activities and healthy eating ideas. By participating in 10 healthy activities, participants will be eligible to win several prizes.

‘Practically live, breathe, and eat Phantom’

    The annual spring musical is coming to the Bellmont High School theatre this Saturday and Sunday: Andrew Lloyd Weber's "The Phantom of the Opera."
    Christine Daae (senior Olivia Babb) is a dancer in Madam Giry's (senior Rachael Coclasure) troupe for an opera house and is receiving voice lessons from a mysterious "Angel of Music."   When the opera house's lead soprano, Carlotta (sophomore Madison Stoppenhagen), quits after being grievously insulted, Christine is encouraged to take her place.

Hockey odyssey still on for Decatur’s Cody Hess

    An effort to find a physical outlet for a hyper-active six-year-old boy started a series of events 13 years ago which dramatically changed the lives of the Hess family.
    "I was a really hyper kid and dad wanted to get me involved in a sport, but I was too young for soccer or some of the other sports," said Cody Hess of his father, Greg.

‘Dedication’ key as Brewer earns soccer opportunity at St. Francis

    "She's probably going to play outside mid for us. She has awesome speed, and she's a smart player," praised St. Francis College girls soccer coach Christy Young, speaking of Bellmont senior Jessica Brewer.
    Brewer recently committed to play soccer for Young, who has coached Brewer in travel soccer over the years.

FCC planning new Berne expansion

    The FCC (Adams) automotive supply company in Berne, fresh off a recent expansion project which created four times the number of jobs originally anticipated, is growing again.
    Berne City Council on Monday evening approved 10-year tax abatements for real estate and new equipment for the Japanese-owned firm's second expansion in as many years at the Parr Road site.

Republicans unveil changes

    Adams County Republican Party Chairman Rob Noetzel has announced that longtime party treasurer Larry Hill has resigned due to matters of health.
    Hill, a Decatur resident, held the treasurer's post for more than 20 years, leading Noetzel to say in a news release, "The entire Adams County Republican Party would like to give its heartfelt thanks to Larry for his dedicated service as the treasurer of our party."
    Noetzel also announced two changes in party leadership.

Esther Augsburger

    Esther Augsburger, 95, of Berne, died Monday in Swiss Village Retirement Community.
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva.

Wanda P. Fugate

    Wanda P. Neadstine Fugate, 100, who lived in the Monroeville area for more than 60 years, died at 10:32 a.m. Sunday in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community of Decatur.
    She was born on September 28, 1910, in Dixon, Ohio.
    She married Howard J. Fugate on July 10, 1937, in Monroeville; he passed away on March 16, 1994.
    Wanda was a homemaker who also operated Fugate's IGA Store in Dixon from 1937-48.
