Rural sewer project bid opening set

January 9, 2015

    Construction bids for the county’s first-ever rural sewer collection system project will be opened in February and awarded in March.
    The tentative schedule was announced during Thursday evening’s monthly meeting of the Adams County Regional Sewer District board.

     Despite temperatures that remained near single digits throughout most of the day Thursday, and wind chills of below zero, these two young Amish boys didn’t seem to mind as they found a small patch of ice on which to skate.

 

School delays and closings

     All three public school systems in Adams County have closed for today, as have St. Joseph Catholic, Wyneken Memorial, Bluffton-Harrison and Jay County Schools. Van Wert City, Crestview Local and Parkway Local schools all remain on a 2 hour delay this morning. We will update any changes as they come in.

Sub-zero mercury reading causes all schools to close

    Area residents awoke this morning to the coldest temperatures of the season thus far, and with the mercury expected to hover right around zero throughout the day, little relief will be felt until Sunday.
    As the thermometer read 6 degrees below zero at 7 a.m. — with the wind chill factor making it feel like 26 degrees below zero — all three Adams County public school systems cancelled classes for the day.

Wellness Pavilion patrons donate food over holidays

    The Arthur & Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion in Berne celebrated the holiday season by collecting 1,281 pounds of non-perishable food items. The food was donated to Compassionate Ministries Network, — also known as Project Share in Berne and The Lord’s Table in Geneva — to assist residents in southern Adams County.

Decatur nurse-practitioner charged in pain doc investigation

MUNCIE — A Decatur woman is facing charges related to the arrest of an Indiana pain doctor whose Muncie clinic was raided in October, according to an article in The Indianapolis Star
    William Hedrick, 52, Fort Wayne, is accused of improperly prescribing controlled substances, including morphine. He was charged Tuesday with eight felonies in Delaware County by Delaware County Prosecutor Jeffrey Arnold.

Extreme temperatures garner school cancellations

     All three public school systems in Adams County, St. Joseph Catholic and Wyneken Memorial have cancelled classes today. Neighboring Bluffton Schools and Jay County Schools in Indiana and Parkway Local, Crestview Local, Vantage Career Center and Van Wert City schools in Ohio, have also cancelled classes for today.

    The city of Decatur is on the move ... or will be soon.
    If all goes as planned, city offices will be moving to the new city hall at Second and Monroe streets on Jan. 16. Meanwhile, before the month is out, it’s likely the police department will also be in its new digs.

Meyer tosses hat in ring in mayoral race

    Decatur City Councilman Kenneth L. Meyer has filed the necessary paperwork and has announced his candidacy for mayor of Decatur. Meyer will be running on the Republican ticket in the May primary election.
    Today was the first day of filing for candidates seeking municipal office this year.
