    Levi S. Christner, 90, of rural Geneva, died Thursday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    He was born to Sam J. and Elizabeth Miller Christner.

Ronald Thornton

    Ronald Thornton, 71, of Decatur, died on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
    Ron was born on August 16, 1939 in Xenia, Ohio, to Edward and Maxine (Elliott) Thornton Sr.
    He married Sharon L. Thompson on January 14, 1967.
    Ron was a lifetime member of Moose Lodge 1311 in Decatur and a longtime volunteer for the Adams County Emergency Management Agency.

Noemi Carrasquillo

    Noemi Carrasquillo, 93, formerly of Decatur, died Tuesday in Lutheran Life Villages at Fort Wayne, where she had lived since 2005.
    She was born in Puerto Rico to Jesus M. and Maria Mayoral Carrasquillo.
    Among survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Jacob (Illis) Perez of Decatur; one son, Ithiel Torres of New Jersey; and one sister, Elizabeth C. Borges of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Lena B. Moore

    Lena B. Moore, 83, of Berne, died Tuesday in Swiss Village Retirement Community.
    She was born in Adams County in July 13, 1927, to Daniel and Irene Badertscher Morand.
    Among survivors are her husband, Daniel Moore; one son, John Moore of Bryant; and one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Ginette) Tielke of Richmond, Texas.

    Ronald L. Thornton, 71, of Decatur, died Tuesday in Lutheran Hospital at Fort Wayne.
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur.

Braves stun Yorkies, handle Carroll for regional crown

    "We deserved it," declared Bellmont junior Brooks Faurote, standing amidst the victory celebration at the Adams Central Team Wrestling Regional Wednesday night.
    That they did. Brent Faurote's incredible Bellmont Braves turned the tables on No. 5 Yorktown and No. 8 Carroll to grab their 15th Team Regional Wrestling title, reclaiming a spot at Team State that the Yorkies took from them a year ago.

Some school sports to see re-classification

    INDIANAPOLIS — IHSAA Commissioner Bobby Cox announced Monday the new classifications for 409 IHSAA member schools in several sports for the next two school years.
    The enrollment figures, the total of boys and girls in grades 9-12, were submitted by the schools to the Indiana Department of Education last fall and are used to determine the classifications in the sports of baseball, boys and girls basketball, football, soccer, softball and volleyball.

NA referendum drive taking shape

    The public relations push in support of a North Adams Community School's general fund referendum — which will ask school district voters during this year's May primary election to approve an increase in property taxes to support the financially-struggling district — will include door-to-door canvassing, meetings with township trustees, newspaper and radio promotions, and website postings.

AC playground staying put for the time being

    With the big construction/renovation project at Adams Central School making good progress, the AC school board discussed at its February meeting what to do about the elementary school playground.
    That play area has been on the north side of the school for many years, but some space was lost when an extension was added for offices, classrooms, and bathrooms to make that side of the school the main entry/exit point.

Leo’s bombs take out Jets 104-73

    LEO-CEDARVILLE — "Leo" is a three-letter word that ends in "o" and Leo's Lions are a three-point team with a whole lot of "O."
    That point was driven home at home on Tuesday as the highest-scoring high school team in Indiana (at least five games over 100 . . . and counting) bombarded Adams Central, 104-73.
    The 31-point margin was the worst loss of the season for the 9-6 Flying Jets, who carried the Lions into overtime in the ACAC Tourney last month before falling, 86-79.
