Siera Bracamonte

June 27, 2011

    Siera Bracamonte, 63, passed away on June 12, 2011.
    Siera was born on January 2, 1948, in Indiana. She was one of four children born to the late Robert and Rosemary Bennett and was the beloved wife of Alfonso Bracamonte for more than 34 years.
    Siera was the proud mother of Nicholas Bracamonte (and wife Alegra), devoted stepmother to Yolanda Bracamonte and Lenny Bracamonte (and wife Jamelle), and grandmother of Liselle, Aidan, Mikael, and Roman.

Ralph E. Jackson

    Ralph E. Jackson, 81, of Decatur, died at 5:16 p.m. Thursday in Englewood Nursing Home at Fort Wayne.
    He was born to Rolla R. and Oda Gay Jackson.
    He retired in 1969 from General Electric Corp. after 40 years of service and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-53.

Eulogia Serna

    Eulogia "Logie" Adalpe Serna, 78, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011, at Woodcrest Retirement Community's Nursing Center in Decatur.
     Logie was born on March 11, 1933, in Pearsall Texas.
    She was married to Jesus Zavala Serna for 64 years, wedded on May 13, 1947, in Crystal City Texas.
    Logie was a homemaker and was very involved in the community.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Decatur and its Mothers' Study Club.

Herbert J. Pearson

    Herbert J. Pearson, 80, of Decatur, died at 8:10 p.m. Thursday at his residence.    He was born on November 12, 1930, on Huntington to Edward Cary and Ruby Josephine Bailey Pearson.
    He married Jeannine L. Simon Wright on August 4, 1989, in Fort Wayne and she survives.
    Herbert retired from the Erie Railroad with 35 years of service as a signalman. He was a member of American Legion Post 43 in Decatur and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6751 in Geneva.

Everett shares journey to help others

    Meri Everett, 28, has been chosen as one of the two honorary co-chairs by the Adams County Relay for Life Committee to walk the first lap around the Adams Central track at the event on Friday.
    Meri is a Bellmont High School graduate and the daughter of Kim Stoppenhagen and Jim and Becky Everett, all of Decatur. She said she is willing to share her journey of her cancer survival with others because, "If my story can help even one person, it would truly be a blessing."

It’s now official: BHS an Early College School

    Officials from CELL — the Center for Excellence in Leadership of Learning — have given the final stamp of approval for Bellmont High School's transformation into one of the few Early College High School's in the state of Indiana.
    Bellmont Principal Scot Croner received notification earlier this week of the approval.

Dogs at events can create problems

    The problem or horse manure came up at this week's meeting of Decatur City Council, and so did another animal-related problem: dogs at events like the just-concluded Motorsports Festival.
    Councilman Matt Dyer raised the issue, explaining how he had seen a woman and her child become frightened by a dog with someone attending the car show. He questioned what, if anything, can be done.

    Ralph E. Jackson, 81, of Decatur, died Thursday in Englewood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne.
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur.

Decatur squads advance in Mays H.E.B.A. Tourney

    All four Decatur teams advanced in the quarter-final round of the Hoosier East Baseball Alliance Mays Tournament, held at three sites Thursday night.
    In Decatur, Decatur Dental Service scored five runs in the second inning, but still had to come from behind to nip Box and Pallet of Monroeville 9-7, and Hull Lift Truck exploded for a 16-1 in over the Fleming Rays (Monmouth). At Monroeville, league champ Kintz Insurance downed the Monmouth Cubs, while at Monmouth, Bixler Insurance, the second seed, bounced Heyerly's Ice Angels 12-2.

    Louneta Bixler, 90, formerly of Monroe, died Tuesday at Woodcrest Retirement Community in Decatur.
    She was born on October 25, 1920, in Adams County to Osia and Mathilda "Tillie" Von Gunten.
    Among survivors are two sons, Sheldon Bixler of Fort Wayne and Von Bixler of Decatur, and one daughter. Mrs. Rick (Raelene) Hirschy of Monroe.
