Benefits of foreign trade zones outlined

    More than 20 people from businesses, governments, etc. in Adams County attended a presentation held Tuesday in Decatur about foreign trade zones (FTZs).
    The presenter was Ola DeGabriele, international trade manager for the City of Fort Wayne. The event was held in a meeting room at Adams Memorial Hospital and was set up by the Adams County Economic Development Corp.

Delores M. Gerber

    Delores M. Gerber, 87, of Decatur, died on Monday, May 23, 2011, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    Delores was born on July 15, 1923, in Adams County to Harry and Emily (Bracht) Worden.
    Delores was united in marriage to Robert M. Moser of Bluffton in the fall of 1941. On December 13, 1944, Second Lieutenant Moser was killed during an aircraft training mission in southeastern Missouri.
    On August 23, 1947, she married Richard C. Gerber Sr. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2010.

Bellmont ‘7’ takes serious aim at state track berths

    It gets tougher, right now.
    Bellmont has seven girls slated for action in the Northrop Girls Track Sectional tonight and, though Bellmont has one runner seeking a second straight state berth, and some talented freshmen who have some credentials to make it to state, there are no guarantees, just a lot of competition at one of the toughest track regionals in the state.

County avoids storm damage

    Adams County escaped damage from thunderstorms and tornadoes on Monday evening, but Van Wert County, just across the border in Ohio, was again hammered by a twister that reportedly left a 3.5-mile-long trail of destruction in the Ohio City area (see below).
    One funnel cloud was reported by a stormspotter near Decatur shortly before 6 p.m., causing the several warning sirens in the city to be switched on, but there was no touchdown here, officials said.

Covered bridge has bid date

    The Adams County Commissioners plan to open bids at their June 27 meeting for the full-scale restoration of the covered bridge near Ceylon.
    At Monday's session of the commissioners, Dave Milligan of Portland, who is overseeing the grant process to finance the project, reported that the plans and designs for renovating the wooden bridge built in the 1870s are 90 percent complete.

    Dolores M. Gerber, 87, of Decatur, died Monday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.

Marie H. Hegemier

May 24, 2011

    Marie H. Hegemier, 69, of Sidney, Ohio, died at home on Saturday.
    She was born in Decatur on August 11, 1941, to Kenneth and Ruth Holle Ohler.
    Among survivors are her four children, Mrs. Steve (Kimberly) Fortney of Yukon, Oklahoma; Mrs. Theodore (Ruth) Henry of Wapakoneta, Ohio; Mrs. Jerry (Danielle) Tangeman of Sidney; and Janice Hegemier (and Marco Diaz) of New York, New York.

Berdella M. Liechty

    Berdella M. Liechty, 73, of Berne, died Monday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    She was born in Adams County on June 16, 1937, to Orval and Marie Biberstein Alt.
    She married Ernest R. Liechty on April 5, 1958; he survives.
    She was active with her husband in a diversified livestock and grain farm, was very supportive of her church (First Mennonite Church at Berne), and was active in 4-H and FFA.

Mary Millington Pratt

    Mary Millington Pratt, 87, of Decatur, died on Friday in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community.
    She married George W. Millington on December 23, 1939 in Decatur and he passed away on January 29, 1967. In 1975, she married Walter E. Pratt and he passed away in 1998.
    She worked for 20 years with the Adams-Wells Association for the Retarded and Handicapped and attended Cornerstone Church, formerly known as Decatur Missionary Church.

Evelyn J. Johnson

    Evelyn Justine Johnson, 87, of Shelby County, Indiana, died on Sunday, May 15, 2011, in Franklin United Methodist Community at Franklin.
    Born on June 18, 1923, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Guy and Gladys McClure Strickler.
    She married Joseph Meredith Johnson on November 30,1939; he preceded her in death in 2002.
