City budget near final; developers given help

September 21, 2011

    Decatur City Council moved its budget to within one final stage of passage and also provided a break for local and area developers at its meeting on Tuesday night.
    Prior to the council meeting, a public hearing was held for the 2012 budget and, with no objections aired, council gave unanimous approval on two readings. The third and final reading — and approval — will come at the October 4 meeting.

City sets up account for major tree project

    Decatur City Council agreed on Tuesday night to set up a $30,000 account which will be used to fund the city's latest major tree project. Once the project is completed, the city will be reimbursed.
    The situation was explained to council by Steve Krull, head of the parks and recreation department and a member of the city's tree board. The city has received a $30,000 grant administered through the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to fund the tree project.

Dr. Lee is recuperating at his home

    Dr. H.S. Lee, longtime city surgeon/ physician, has been discharged from Parkview Hospital and is recuperating at home.
    He suffered an acute medical problem at his home nearly two weeks ago.
    Adams Health Network President and CEO Tom Nordwick noted, “Dr. Lee’s family has expressed their thanks for everyone’s prayers and support on his behalf.”

David L. Bailey

    David L. Bailey, 66, of rural Decatur, died Tuesday in Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.

Dennis A. Lehman

September 21, 2011

    Dennis L. Lehman, 93, of Berne, died Tuesday in Swiss Village Retirement Community.
    He was born to William and Caroline Flueckiger Lehman.
    Among survivors are his wife, Romaine; two sons, Jim Lehman of Berne and Lee Lehman of Centerville, Ohio; and two daughters, Mrs. Barry (Denise) Moore of Geneva and Mrs. Ted (Gretta) Beitler of Berne.
    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in First Mennonite Church at Berne, with burial in MRE Cemetery, rural Berne.

Kenneth H. Liechty

    Kenneth H. Liechty, 86, of Berne, died Tuesday at home.
    He was born to Elmer and Leona Sprunger Liechty.
    Among survivors are his wife, Rose Marie; one son, Lyle M. Liechty of Carmel; one daughter, Beth A. Walker of Berne; and one sister, Mrs. Bryce (Deloris) Christy of Berne.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Cross United Church of Christ at Berne, with burial in MRE Cemetery, rural Berne.

Earl M. Stucky

    Earl M. Stucky, 91, of Berne, a former Monroe resident, died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday at Swiss Village Retirement Community.
    He was born on October 13, 1919, in Berne to Erwin and Martha Liechty Stucky.
    He married Marjorie M. Dotterer on October 12, 1940; she survives.
    He was the former owner of Stucky Furniture in Monroe, a business that was in his family for 81 years.

Royce R.L. Woolfolk

    Royce Robertson Lanson "Lanny" Woolfolk, 52, of Bumpass, Virginia, went to be with his Lord on Monday, September 12, 2011.
    Lanny was a business owner in the timber industry and was recognized as Businessman of the Year for Louisa County in 1997.
    He was active in various community and civic organizations and, as a conservationist, was a passionate steward and manager of wildlife and habitat.

    FORT WAYNE––It took three points for the Squaws of Bellmont to regroup from their sluggish start, but after the  Bishop Luers Lady Knights gave up their serve, the Bellmont netters had Luers in their rear view mirror the rest of the way to sweep them three games to none.

Grace I. Green

    Grace I. Green, a longtime resident of Decatur, died at 2:15 a.m. Monday in Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne.
    She was born in Fort Wayne on November 17 to John R. and Mabel A. Hyde Savieo.
    She married Richard D. Green on September 16, 1944, in Monroeville; he died on June 12, 2000.
    Grace was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Women of the Moose at Lodge 1311, both in Decatur.
