Jobless numbers in Adams County crept up for the second consecutive month in June, according to statistics released Friday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The latest figures showed the county's unemployment rate for June at 8.0 percent, up two-tenths of a percent from May. The county had hit a three-year jobless low in April at 7.6 percent.
"Everybody likes it. We're having a good time and having fun, and working hard on the seven on sevens and really gaining momentum for the season," stated Bellmont linebacker Dewey Melcher on the state of Bellmont football under new coach Larry Getts.
Melcher's obviously positive feeling for the first-year Bellmont coach seems to be shared by a good many of the BHS players, who will go at it for real in another week.
BLUFFTON — A huge eight-run rally in the top of the sixth keyed the Decatur 12-and-under All-Stars to a 13-6 win over South Adams and the pool title in the Bluffton Baseball Bash Saturday.
The Mobile Ones fell to the eventual champions from Chillicothe, O. in the Sunday playoffs and took home third place medals in the tourney.
Lori A. Beer, 49, of Decatur, died at home on Saturday.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.
John Madison Hudson, 28, of Geneva, passed away at 2:58 p.m., on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born on Thursday, December 9, 1982, in St. Marys, Ohio.
John attended Mendon Union School in Mendon, Ohio and Parkway schools in Rockford, Ohio.
He worked at Cooper Farms in St. Henry, Ohio and had also worked in construction.
The pairings for tonight's championship game in the Decatur Girls Junior Softball League are set with Rorick Electric having defeated German Mutual Insurance 15-1 Wednesday night in the finals of the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tourney.
Rorick's will face West End at 6 p.m. tonight at Hanna-Nuttman Park. If Rorick's wins the opener, a second game will then be played to determine the champion.
Mike Pries, South Adams Athletic Director, has announced the first practice times for the fall sports at the Berne school.
Girls golf will open the fall season with a July 29, 8 a.m. practice at the Golf Club of the Limberlost.
The rest of the varsity fall sports teams will open practice on Monday, Aug.1.
Football practice will open at 8 a.m.. at the high school practice field.

The City of Decatur is moving rapidly to get rid of one eyesore building and is hopeful of being able to remove a second, and more dangerous one.
City council on Tuesday night approved on two readings the terms of a contract to purchase for $30,000 the former sweeper shop (and onetime Holthouse Drug Co.) builging at Second and Monroe streets.

Decatur recorded its fifth consecutive high temperature in the 90s on Wednesday, and it also marked the third day in a row that the high has been higher than the previous day. Wednesday's top mark was 97, a two-degree tick upward from Tuesday's 95.

Recent storms throughout the Midwest have had an effect on the building progress of the new rehabilitation unit being constructed at Woodcrest by the Adams Health Network (AHN), it was learned Wednesday night at the monthly meeting of the AHN board of trustees.
