Services set for Sr. Margaret Rose

May 13, 2011

     Sister Margaret Rose Donnelly, SSND, 76, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
    Her body will be received at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011, immediately followed by the reciting of the Holy Rosary.

Charger golfers clip BHS at Cross Creek, 157-162

    Carroll won boys' varsity and reserve golf matches on a steamy Wednesday at Cross Creek Golf Club.
    The varsity score was 157 to 162 and the JV score was 162 to 201.
    In the varsity match, Carroll’s No. 1, Oliver Gibson, shot a one-under 35 for medalist honors. Alex Cahill added 40 while Cam Brower and Alex Ramsey both shot 41 to pace the winners.

Richard G. Brown

    Richard G. Brown, 62, of Decatur, died on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
    He was born in Marion, Indiana, on May 17, 1948, to Harry G. Brown Jr. and Margaret M. (Hix) Brown, who are deceased.
    On March 23, 1981, he married Sharon M. Springer.
    Richard served in the United States Air Force and retired from Central Soya in Decatur.

    Less than two years following a controversial reconfiguration of classrooms throughout the North Adams school district — and the closure of one elementary school building — a member of the North Adams school board has proposed another realignment of building uses.

    Three surveys of 1,136 people in the Adams Central area were recently taken by AC's curriculum director, Anna Spalding, to gauge the reaction to the policy begun last August of delaying the start of school each Wednesday for 30 minutes so teachers can have a weekly 45-minute professional development period.

Students plan trip to help Haitians

    Caylie Yoder last summer saw first-hand the lingering devastation caused by the 2008 hurricane on the island nation of Haiti. She will be returning next month as part of a contingent from South Adams Schools that is traveling to Haiti with a water purification system that will improve the lives of residents there.
    Yoder, a senior at South Adams, went to Haiti last summer with a group from the Bridge Community Church. She told members of the Berne City Council at their May 9 meeting of the lack of basic sanitation and clean water.

    Richard G. Brown, 62, of Decatur, died Tuesday in Lutheran Hospital at Fort Wayne.
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur.

Lila M. Hersberger

May 11, 2011

    Lila Mae Hersberger, 83, of Ridgeville, passed away at 11:04 a.m. on Sunday, May 8, while in the company of family members at her residence.
    Lila was born in Bisbee, Arizona, on September 17, 1927, a daughter of Myrtle Frazier Hodges and Wendell T. Hodges.
    She was a member of Bearcreek Friends Church at Ridgeville.

Alice R. Journay

    Alice R. Journay, 90, of Berne, died there on Monday.
    She was born in Adams County on January 5, 1921, to James T. and Dessie Ludy Bailey.
    Among survivors are two daughters, Mrs. James (Brenda) Garber and Angelia Journay of Berne, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Chloe) Davidson of Geneva and Mrs. LaVerne (Martha) Miller of Monroe.

    Helen M, Keller, 92, of Berne, died Tuesday in Swiss Village Retirement Community.
    She was born in Berne on November 21, 1918, to Edward and Ethel Davidson Elzey.
    Among survivors is a daughter, Mrs. David (JoAnn) Gierhart of Bryant.
