    Adams County Clerk Gayla Reinhart has announced the locations of the seven polling places in Decatur and Berne that will be in operation next Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for city and town elections.
    Following is one race in Decatur, six races in Berne.
    Here are the voting places:

    Decatur One — North Adams Schools administrative office, 625 Stadium Dr., next to US 224 East.

Seek gifts for kids

    Officials of the Adams County chapter of Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC) have announced that its Emmanuel Project has begun, with the goal of providing Christmas gifts to children in low-income families in the county.
    Churches throughout the county are being contacted by Love INC to sponsor such children, but businesses and individuals are also welcome to become sponsors, according to LOVE officials.
    Those eligible are children who receive free or reduced-price meals at schools.

Shoeboxes to be filled for kids

    Operation Christmas Child (OCC) will be undertaken again this year by members of The Bridge Community Church in Decatur.
    Shoeboxes will be filled with school supplies, toys, hygiene items, notes of encouragement, etc. and are given to needy children at Christmastime, an announcement said, noting that OCC has provided some 86 million gifts since 1993 to children around the world.

    Emma S. Girod, 95, Fort Wayne, died Sunday at 9:15 p.m. at her residence.
    She was the daughter of Samuel J. and Elizabeth Ann (Miller) Christner. She was married on January 18, 1940, to John S. Girod, who preceded her in death on March 5, 2002.

    Jerry L. "J.T." Tharp Sr., 72, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Englewood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne.
    He was born on March 22, 1939, in Ridgeville, Indiana, to Roe and Frances Wooters Tharp.
    He married Mariana M. Jauregui on June 29, 1957.

Bellmont still celebrating second sectional championship

    "This was something else. I don't know what to say," said Bellmont's standout runningback Cody Walters minutes after the Braves won just their second sectional football championship ever, 21-20 in overtime at Western High School Friday night.
    "The whole game was hard-hitting, but we never stopped, never gave in, and we got it done," said determined senior linebacker Dewey Melcher.

Ben Baker is Athlete of the Weeke

    Without solid line play on both sides of the ball, football teams seldom are successful.
    In Bellmont's outstanding 22-7 sectional win over Yorktown last Friday, Ben, as usual, played on both offense and defense.
    Offensively, Baker and Co. opened up holes that allowed BHS backs to gain 235 rushing yards while on defense, Baker was hounding the Tigers all night with seven and a half tackles, three and a half of which were tackles for loss of yardage. He also had one and a half sacks.

    It's championship Friday for Adams County high school football!
    Ain't it grand!
    "Hopefully, all three teams will play well and win. That would be a first. That would be crazy," stated Adams Central football coach Michael Mosser, whose Jets will be seeking a 17th sectional crown for the tradition rich Class A school tonight when North Miami comes to Central's field.

Monroe eyes water rate hike

    Monroe Town Council President Al Lehman unveiled a proposal for an average 18.5 percent increase in monthly water rates for the community at the council's November meeting held Thursday night.
    He proposed an amendment to the water rate ordinance and said it would be formally drawn up in time for a public hearing on the matter at the council's December 1 meeting.
