Bellmont down Pats after long time off

    A rock-solid second half by the Bellmont Braves led by a 19-point game performance by Payton Selking found the Braves posting a 43-39 victory over Heritage at the Teepee on Saturday.
    Bellmont took just 15 shots in the second half but made 10 of them as they erased a 23-18 lead that Heritage owned at halftime to go up 31-29 at the end of the third period. In that stanza,  Selking danced his way through the Heritage trees for a pair of baskets but perhaps his biggest shot of the  night came just before the horn sounded.

Braves need 8th criteria to fend off Knights

    In the second match of the NHC meet between East Noble at Bellmont Saturday at the Teepee, BHS sophomore sub 132-pounder Diego Hutker scored the first takedown against Knights' senior Nick Yoquelet.

Nichole J. Summersett

    Nichole J. "Nikki" Summersett, 29, of Berne, died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday at her residence.
    She was born on September 17, 1982, in Adams County to Steven and Penny Liechty Haines, who live in Berne.
    She married Jeff Summersett on October 20, 2007; he survives.
    She was a graduate of South Adams High School and a magna cum laude graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University's School of Nursing at Marion, Indiana.

Moderate decline seen from peak crop prices

    Agricultural projections for 2012 in the United States are fairly good, with "a pretty smooth landing on the other side" for farm producers after enjoying peak crop prices this year.
    That's according to Dr. Chris Hurt, a 31-year agricultural economist at Purdue University, who delivered the annual Ag Outlook report on Thursday night to some 100 people at a supper held in the 4-H Fairgrounds dining hall at Monroe.

    Further information concerning    the police pursuit on Wednesday afternoon which reached speeds of nearly 80 mph at one point before the car being chased crashed into a local house was released this morning by the Decatur Police Department.    

Purdue Varsity Glee Club, Purduettes to perform here

    The Purdue University Varsity Glee Club and the Purduettes will perform on Sunday, March 4, in Erekson Theatre at Bellmont High School at 3 p.m. This will be the first time in northeastern Indiana that the two vocal groups will perform together, an announcement said.
    Tickets will be $15 per person.
    The two Purdue groups will also attend a buffet lunch at BHS from noon to 1:30 p.m. on March 4, with admission of $10 per person for a limited number of tickets.

Crash ends police chase

    A police pursuit through Decatur at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday resulted in a driver being sought by authorities striking a van and then plowing into a house on N. Second Street.
    Decatur Police Chief Ken Ketzler said this morning that the individual described as being a black male in his 30s tried to pass a check at the Innovative Concepts store at 1421 Manchester Street, but store officials became suspicious and notified police.

    Geneva Marshall Rob Johnson said at this week's meeting of the Geneva Town Council that synthetic marijuana, also known as "Spice" or "K2," continues to be confiscated from students at South Adams Schools.

Only two TIF hurdles remain

    Only two more local hurdles remain for Decatur's tax increment financing (TIF) district: to clear: votes on December 20 seeking approval by the Decatur Plan Commission and the Decatur City Council.
    The latest was cleared on Wednesday evening by a 5-0 vote of the Decatur Redevelopment Commission (DRC) to approve the second of two required resolutions for the TIF district the DRC created in October.

Car crashes into house on 2nd St.

    Decatur police are investigating a high-speed crash on Second Street that took place shortly after noon on Wednesday. Details have yet to be released, although it is known that the car — after traveling at a reported speed of 70 miles per hour southbound on Second Street — struck a residence. The driver of that vehicle was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital with a reported lacerated skull and other injuries.
