Doyle M. Winteregg 85, of Berne, passed away Saturday June 23, 2012, at Swiss Village.
He was born in Berne on April 9, 1927, to the late Raymond and Pearl (Yoder) Winteregg.
Doyle married Phyllis A. (Hoffman) Winteregg on October 4, 1946; she survives in Berne.
The daughter of Paul and Kathy Gross, Marykate "Katie" Birch, 38, has been chosen as one of two honorary co-chairs by the Adams County Relay for Life Committee for the 2012 event, slated to start at 12 noon Saturday at Adams Central's football stadium.
Katie graduated from Bellmont High School and lives south of Decatur with her family: children Isaac, 18; Maverick, 16; and Gabrielle, 11; and her husband, Matt Birch.
The $291,100 project to replace most of Decatur's approximate 2,500 street signs is moving along more rapidly than expected, Street/Sewer Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert told city council on Tuesday night.
Michiana Contracting of Plymouth is doing the work, mostly funded through a federal grant, and had already replaced some 500 signs, Gilbert said Tuesday night.
Decatur received its first significant rainfall of the month on Thursday when an early-evening storm dumped 8-10ths of an inch here, according to officials at the city weather station.
Only 3-10ths of an inch had been recorded in the first 20 days of the month.
A high in the 90s was recorded for the fourth day in a row, but highs here are expected to drop back into the 80s today and the 70s by the first of the week.
Inez G. Baker, 94, of Celina, Ohio, died Wednesday in Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
A native of Adams County, she married Ernest W. Baker in Geneva; he preceded her in death.
Survivors Include two daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Boise and Nancy Bates, both of Celina, and two brothers, Harold Miller of Decatur and Perry Miller of Union City, Indiana.
Clifford M. Hoverman, 89, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on January 16, 1923, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Charles F. and Oval N. (Dull) Hoverman.
Clifford married Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Imler) on July 26, 1944.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — The chairman of Purdue University’s Board of Trustees says he sought out Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels to consider becoming the school’s new president after Daniels decided to not seek the Republican presidential nomination.
Trustees chairman Keith Krach called Daniels a distinguished leader who’ll be world-class ambassador for Purdue around the country and the globe.

Scot Croner, who for the past four years has served as the principal at Bellmont High School, is expected to be approved next week as the Marion (Grant County) Community School district's director of secondary instruction.
Croner, who has yet to formally submit his resignation from the North Adams Community School district, said earlier this week that he has informed local school officials of his intention to accept the position. The Marion school board meets June 27 to officially approve Croner's hiring.

The possibility of a recreational vehicle parking area in Kekionga Park, mentioned in the master plan recently approved by the city park board has sparked opposition from residents of the Parkview Drive area, situated next to the park.
Sherry Genth, attending Tuesday night's city council meeting, carried a petition with over 100 names opposing an "RV park" in Kekionga. And, she added, residents of the area aren't happy with plans for a possible dog park in Kekionga, either.
Organizers for the Adams County Relay for Life announced there will be a worship service at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Adams Central football stadium to begin the last day of the event.
The service will be open to everyone and will be signed by licensed sign language interpreter Julie Jahn. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved inside the school.
