Starfires continue to roll

    UNION CITY— It was a cold night and a cold start for the Starfires on Friday night as they faced off against the Union City Indians in the semi-final round of sectional 35, but South Adams warmed up quickly in the second quarter to jump ahead and stay ahead for the eventual 40-26 victory.
    The win awards the Stars a home game against #6 ranked Sheridan next Friday night in the championship round of sectionals as the Blackhawks defeated Lapel 48-16 in the other semi-final contest.

Braves knock off Yorktown

    A huge performance by the Bellmont defense, which resulted in eight quarterback sacks and 14 tackles for loss,, plus a new offensive weapon helped key the Bellmont Braves to a second-round, 22-7, IHSAA sectional playoff victory over Yorktown Friday night at Bob Worthman Stadium.
    "Our defense was outstanding," analyzed Bellmont coach Larry Getts following the smothering show the Braves blanketed the Tigers with.

    Phyllis Martin, 83, of Leo-Cedarville, a former Decatur resident, died on Wednesday at The Cedars, a nursing home.
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.

It’s Callithumpian time

    Decatur's Callithumpian festival hits the fan this weekend, with all sorts of activities scheduled leading up to Halloween Night and the Callithumpian Parade.
    The Halloween Healthfair was held at Adams Memorial Hospital this morning, and a new event is scheduled tonight: Haunted Decatur Wagon Tours.

More than 220 kids participate in painting contest

    There wasn't much real estate available on the floor of the largest room in Riverside Center on Thursday evening as 226 area students from kindergarten through fifth grade flocked to the 31st annual Callithumpian Festival poster-painting contest.
    The event lasted two hours.
    Many of the posters will be on display in Decatur business windows.
    Winners will be announced later.

AMH open house slated Sunday

    Adams Memorial Hospital will host an open house from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday in celebration of its Adams Medical Complex.
    The new complex, which is located behind the Strickler Cancer Institute, will include Decatur Family Medicine with Dr. Crystal Jencks and Dr. Jessamine Hippensteel.
    A news release said both physicians will be available during the open house for the public to meet. They specialize in family medicine and obstetrics care.

County schools look to advance in sectional action

    The second round of high school football sectionals kicks off tonight with games at 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.
    The three Adams County schools are all still in the running for their respective sectionals and would like to ask for continued support from their local fan base.
    The Braves will be at home this evening with a tough Yorktown squad who sit at 6-4. Should the Braves move on tonight, it will be a coin flip between two 8-2 teams, Mississinewa and Western, both are the sectional favorites over the Braves.

Braves look to take down upstart Yorkies

    Coming off an outstanding offensive performance at Blackford, Bellmont will be back at Bob Worthman Stadium Friday night in round two of the 3A football playoffs as they take on 6-4 Yorktown Tigers, who are fresh off of their 38-24 upset win over sectional favorite Eastbrook.
    "Every time you get to the next round of competition it's good," stated first-year BHS coach Larry Getts.
