Herman W. Hammond

March 19, 2012

     Herman W. Hammond, 87, a lifelong resident of Decatur, died at 5:56 p.m. Thursday in Adams Memorial Hospital.    
    Herman was very active in the Decatur Church of God, serving in various positions. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 43 of Adams County.
      Herman worked with his brothers in Hammond Produce for many years and was the Washington Township Assessor for 12 years.

Jolene Joy Heyerly

    Jolene Joy Heyerly, 62, a longtime resident of Decatur, met her heavenly Father at 11:40 p.m. Thursday at her residence.
    She was born in Wells County to Bernarr (Red) and Mary Meyer Biddle, both deceased. She married David A. Heyerly on June 16, 1968, in the Assembly of God Church, Fort Wayne.

Helen J. Meyer

March 19, 2012

    Helen J. Meyer, 83, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Lutheran Life Villages in FortWayne.    
    Helen was born on January 23, 1929, in Adams County to the late Florian and Bertha (Ulman) Geimer.
    On May 13, 1950, she married Robert E. Meyer.

Daniel Alan Shoaf

    Daniel Alan Shoaf, 59, of Decatur, passed away at 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012, in the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana located in Fort Wayne, after suffering a stroke Sunday at his residence.
    Dan was born on Sunday, June 29, 1952, in Decatur, the son of the late Earl and Harriet (Voglewede-Gilson) Shoaf.    
    He married Danene K. Thieme on October 27, 1974, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Decatur; she survives.

Grant gets ball rolling on sewers

    The long-awaited grant of nearly $2.3 million to finally bring new sanitary sewers to Pleasant Mills, Roe Acres, Monmouth, Bobo, and Arcadia Village has finally been received by the Regional Sewer District (RSD), according to Berry Scherer of the RSD and Ben Adams of Commonwealth Engineering.     
    Adams and Scherer told Adams County Commissioners this week that the total project cost is $4.51 million, leaving approximately $2.481 million needed to finish the project.

Thursday’s 79 here topped normal high by 31 degrees!

    Although spring doesn't officially begin until next Tuesday, you can't tell by the weather conditions.
    The temperature topped out at a stunning 79 degrees on Thursday at the Decatur weather station — and no immediate end to the warm spell is expected!
    Normal highs for this time of the year are 48, which Thursday's high here topped by a whopping 31 degrees! Normal lows are 28.
