Bridge restoration continues

    With supports now in place, Jutte Excavating, Fort Recovery, Ohio, has begun the process of removing the remaining sections of the Ceylon Covered Bridge to dry land to continue work on the restoration project.
    Cranes will be brought in this week to remove the sections to dry land to continue the restoration of the historical bridge.
 

New traffic lights in town

    The Hoosier CO Inc. of Indianapolis has torn up curbs on Monroe St. intersections at four locations in Decatur prior to replacing overhead traffic lights, an Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) project.
    The lights at First, Second, Third and Fifth will be replaced, improving traffic flow, INDOT officials have told city officials.
    The curbs are being torn up in order to put down new electrical equipment used by the lilghts.

Indiana lawmaker opposes honor for Girl Scouts

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A lawmaker has sent a letter to fellow Republican members of the Indiana House saying he will not support a resolution celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts because he believes it is a ‘‘radicalized organization’’ that supports abortion and promotes homosexuality.

    Betty M. Feasel, 89, of Decatur, passed away at 10:05 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012, in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    Betty was born on Friday, January 26, 1923, in Adams County, the daughter of the late Varlando and Bertha (Flager) Clark.
    She married Bille Joe Feasel on July 19, 1953; he preceded her in death on May 2, 2002.

Dortha M. Hirschy

    Dortha M. Hirschy, 89, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    She was born on August 26, 1922, in Adams County, to the late Forrest and Lessie (Watkins) Ray.
    On December 6, 1941, she married Wayne H. Hirschy.
    Dortha was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church and retired in 1985 from C.T.S. in Berne after 21 years of service.

    Dortha M. Hirschy, 89, of Decatur, died on Sunday at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.

Dolores J. Tschannen

February 20, 2012

    Dolores J. Tschannen, 81, of Decatur, passed away at 8:37 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    She was born on November 16, 1930, in Adams County, to the late Chalmer K. and Melvena M. (Smitley) Sheets.
    She married Homer B. Tschannen on April 9, 1950. He passed away on August 8, 1978.

Batt takes second in finals; three Braves place

    INDIANAPOLIS —  Todd Batt made history for South Adams, becoming the first Starfire wrestler to compete under the lights at the IHSAA State Wrestling Finals Saturday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, and Bellmont continued its storied tradition with state placers Ben Baker, Brooks Faurote and Brad Busse.
    Frosh Sawyer Miller also had a very successful debut for the Stars, earning fourth place at 106 pounds for coach Eric Myers.

Bellmont Braves claim first swim sectional since 1980

    PORTLAND—Members of the 2011-12 Bellmont boys swim team weren't alive the last time a sectional trophy made its way to the BHS awards case but a spectacular performance in the pool Saturday by the Braves resulted in seven first place finishes and a sectional championship.
