'Sport Day' at Adams Central

February 9, 2012

    Adams Central Elementary School held a "sport day" on Wednesday as part of a series of Relay for Life fundraising events.
    School officials said students and staff were able to wear any sports apparel, with students paying 50 cents and staff $1 for the privilege.
    Proceeds go to the Adams County Relay for Life.

Betty Lee Roe

February 8, 2012

    Betty Lee Roe, 82, of rural Decatur, passed away at 5:50 a.m., on Monday, February 6, 2012, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
    Betty was born on Wednesday, June 26, 1929, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Raymond M. and Arberdeen (Snyder) Fickert.
    She married the late Ernest Roe on September 28, 1957, in Ohio City, Ohio.  He passed away on January 5, 2011.
    Betty was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and WELCA in Ohio City.

Emily Y. Hart

    Emily Y. Hart, 70, of Decatur, died Tuesday.
    Among survivors are her husband, John Hart of Decatur; son John Kiser Jr.; sister Mary (Lester) Sheets of Monroe; brother Jerry (Sharon) Knittle, of Decatur; brother Lloyd (Susan) Knittle of Portland; and brother Allen (Belle) Knittle of Decatur.
    Calling is one hour prior to services in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held there Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery.
 

IDEM making new demands on Decatur

    IDEM (the Indiana Department of Environmental Management) is knocking on Decatur's door once again and ultimately it's going to be the residents of this community who are going to paying the bill to open that door.

Asbestos removal is next

       Air Management Techniques of Muncie has been awarded a city contract to remove asbestos from the former Dwayne's Sweeper Shop building at the corner of Monroe and Second streets in downtown Decatur, it was announced at last night's meeting of Decatur City Council.
    The Muncie firm had the low bid of $2,100.

Warren seeks new term at Geneva

     Republican Bill Warren, of Geneva, has announced his candidacy for the Geneva office of clerk-treasurer. Warren has served as clerk-treasurer for the last three years.

Girls sectional under way; SA ousted

    MONROE—Eastside and Churubusco won opening round games of sectional 36 in the class 2A tournament held at Adams Central Tuesday night to advance to Friday night semi-final play against Bishop Luers and Adams Central respectively.
    The opening contest was a battle down to the wire with Eastside knocking off Bluffton 42-40  while in the nightcap Busco raced out to an early 12-0 lead in the first period before settling for a 42-27 victory over the Starfires.

City ponders limits on adult businesses

    The mere hint of an adult business expressing interest in Decatur has initiated a proposed change in the city’s zoning regulations, and the Decatur Plan Commission on Monday evening got its first glimpse at an amended zoning ordinance aimed at limiting adult and sexually-oriented businesses in the city.

Sigler got triumphant news on sick bed

    Dan Sigler was back at work Monday in his Columbia City law office after a dramatic weekend in which the state official he was prosecuting was found guilty by a jury — a verdict Sigler learned of at his home while in bed recuperating from the flu.
    "Everyone's calling today to see if they're in my will," Sigler laughed over the telephone.
