One elected and one appointed member of the North Adams school board were issued their oaths of office Tuesday evening as the board began a new calendar year with a new look.
Incumbent Tim Ehlerding and newcomer Al Converset were sworn into office as the board's first order of business for 2013. Mark Bulmahn, who was elected in November to a seat on the board, was absent and will be sworn in next week.
Sheriff Shane Rekeweg attended Adams County Council's monthly meeting Tuesday morning to inform the council of problems he and Information Technology Director Landon Patterson were having with the 911 information-gathering software.
Rekeweg explained that every time a call is made to 911, software is supposed to pull information about the caller, including the caller's location and phone number, so that the dispatcher knows where to send help.
Donald W. Beery, 93, of Ossian, formerly of Decatur, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Ossian Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Don was born in Portland on November 23, 1919, to the late Clyde B. and Esther A. (Shrank) Beery.
He married Dora J. Wilkinson on July 5, 1946; she survives in Ossian.
Patricia Richards, 77, of Decatur, died January 8, 2013.

WOODBURN—Things did not work out quite as Adams Central fans had expected in the opening round of the ACAC tournament at Woodlan on Tuesday night.
After beating the Warriors in a double overtime thriller at the Hangar a month before, it was Woodlan who coasted to a 54-36 win over the Jets in the boys' opener.
Conversely, the Lady Jets entered the contest with the Lady Warriors with a 4-9 record, a two game losing streak, and a previous 25-point loss in the building a month before.
Norma Marceline (Baker) Agler, 86, of Cape Coral, Fla., passed away on December 29, 2012, at Cape Coral Hospital.
She was born in Decatur to the late Franklin O. and Opal (Butcher) Baker on December 4, 1926.
Norma married her high school sweetheart, Noel L. Agler on September 26, 1948, after he had completed his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Vera Andress "Tutti" Dusseau, 88, died January 2, 2013, in Berne.
Among survivors are her daughter, Annette Dusseau, and her son-in-law Shawn Modula.
A memorial service is planned sometime in the future.
Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association.
Bearcreek Farms has announced that this will be the final year it will be in operation.
In addition, notable changes are planned for 2013, it was stated in a news release.
The property will only be open to the public when there are scheduled events, the announcement said. Such events will include a limited number of concerts and reservations for retreats, private events and conventions. The scheduled concerts will be released yet this month.
Adams County Attorney Mark Burry informed the county commissioners on Monday that he had received a proposal from Dave Sholl of Schenkel and Shultz Architecture, for a "study on a new structure to house the Superior and Circuit Courts along with the Clerk's Office."
The proposal breaks down the steps needed for said study, as well as the fee for the work — $3,400 plus reimbursements — which could probably be finished by the end of January.
