Lady Lions pound on Jets in ACAC semi-final, 59-26

    A second straight upset win in the ACAC basketball tournament just wasn't in the cards Thursday night for the Adams Central girls as the Taylor Seiss-Keanna Gray led Leo Lions hammered the Jets 59-26 in the semi-final round at the beautiful Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

Lincner sparks Lady Redskins past Squaws, 61-48

    FORT WAYNE—Thanks to senior night at North Side High School, Zorana Lincner's 21 points came from off the bench as the junior almost single-handedly put Bellmont out of contention last night in a 61-48 win over the Squaws.
    Offense came at a premium with North Side's normal starters getting some pine while the seniors were in the limelight. It was 7-7 with 4:00 to play in the first quarter before things changed quickly and for the worst for Bellmont.

    Chris L. Eicher, 50, of Geneva, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, in White Pigeon, Mich.
    Among survivors are his wife, Esther (Ruben) Eicher of Geneva; six sons, Menno (Ruby) C. Eicher of Goshen, Daniel (Malinda) C. Eicher of Berne, Ernest (Elizabeth) C. Eicher and Chris (Freda) Eicher Jr., both of Macy, Ind., Henry Eicher of Geneva, John Miller of Wooster, Ohio; and daughter, Elizabeth (Luke) C. Shetler of Brinkhaven, Ohio.

Daniel C. Graber

    Daniel C. Graber, 48, of Portland, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, in White Pigeon, Mich.
    Among survivors are his wife, Anna R. (Hilty) Graber of Portland; three daughters, Leah (Ernest) Eicher of Geneva, Elizabeth Graber, and Anna Graber, both of Portland; and three sons, Daniel, Chris, and David Graber, all of Portland.
    Visitation will be from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, January 11, and from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, at the Daniel C. Graber residence, 638 W - 400 N Portland.

Fred Haugk

    Fred Haugk, 93, died December 29, 2012, at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, Fla.
    He was born in Ingalls, Ind.
    Fred was a 1937 graduate of Anderson High School and attended Indiana University from 1937-1940.
    He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in China during World War II.

Charles A. Nunery

    Charles Albert "Al" Nunery, 93, of Indianapolis, former pastor of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Decatur, died January 6.
    Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. this Saturday at Leppert Mortuary at 740 E 86th St., Indianapolis.
    Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Indianapolis.

Patricia J. Richards

    Patricia J. Richards, 77, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.
    Pat was born in Geneva on February 19, 1935, to the late Woodrow W. and Vera D. (Anspaugh) Kelly.
    She married Jack J. Richards on October 30, 1954; he preceded her in death in 1980.
    Pat attended Cornerstone Community Church and was a member of the former United Brethren Women’s Mission Fellowship. She was Activity Director for Adams Memorial Hospital.

Lyle R. Scott

   Lyle Robert Scott, 30, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana following a brief illness.

    He was born in Decatur on Tuesday, August 31, 1982, to Robert Wayne Scott and Kathleen Ann (Dawson) Scott.
    Lyle married Cristy Dawn Fore on May 21, 2011, in St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Monroeville; she survives in Decatur.

Jacqueline Smith

    Jacqueline “Jackie” Smith, 85, of Decatur, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center.
    Jackie was born in Wells County on September 3, 1927, to the late Wayne M. and Martha V. (Rowe) Huffman.
    She married William A. “Bill” Smith on June 17, 1951; he survives in Decatur.

Being prepared – Various officials in county discuss school safety

    School officials and representatives of police departments from throughout Adams County took part on Wednesday in a table-top exercise at Adams Central Schools designed to discuss security situations at schools.
    Among those attending were the resource officers for the three high schools in the county. as well as the superintendents of the three school systems.
    Indiana State Police Sgt. Dan Mawhoor offered different scenarios and possible reactions to each were discussed
