A rough ride may get a bit smoother for Monroe residents if all goes according to plan.
Monroe Town Council President Al Lehman said at last week's town council meeting that Van Buren St., south of US 124, has been "a mess" for quite some time and needs to be resurfaced. The problem is the town doesn't have enough money in the Motor Vehicle Fund to cover the cost. However, the Economic Development Fund (EDF) does.
The Adams County Extension Homemakers are the grand marshals of the 2013 4-H Fair Parade scheduled for next Tuesday.
In making the announcement, the Adams County Extension Office said there is a rich history of Extension Homemakers in Adams County and currently there are 12 extension clubs with a total of 111 members who are contributing their time and efforts for local and state projects.
Registration for North Adams Schools 2013-2014 year will be held Tuesday, August 6, at the following times:
• Southeast and Northwest elementaries — 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 3 p.m.-7 p.m.
• Bellmont Middle School — 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m., 12:30-3 p.m., 5-7 p.m.
• Bellmont High School — Seniors 8-10 a.m., juniors 10 a.m.-12 noon., sophomores 1-3 p.m., freshmen 3-5 p.m.

Residents of the Monroe Township portion of the town of Monroe will not become members of the Adams Public Library System (APLS) since the bid to make that happen has been defeated in dueling petition drives.
Township Trustee Gerald Walker said in an e-mail to the Daily Democrat that there were 106 signatures for the change and 152 on a petition to prevent the change.
The HERO Meals program, a private organization of local volunteers whose goal is to alleviate child hunger throughout the North Adams school system, will operate again during the upcoming school year.

A1C Teeple of the 791st MSFS and two pals traveled no less than 1,350 miles from their Minot, North Dakota, base to Texas to participate in the NYTEX Armed Forced Hockey Classic in North Richland Hills, Texas, over the Memorial Day weekend.
On Wednesday, the Bellmont girls soccer squad will be hosting the first annual BHS Girl's Soccer Alumni Game.
Starting at 7 p.m. at the BHS Field, the game will feature the current Bellmont roster pitted against any alumni from years past. Coach Steve Lee noted that "there are many ways to participate as an alumni—as a player, a sponsor, or even just as a spectator."
Pauline C. “Polly” Huppert, 87, of Decatur, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
Polly was born August 1, 1925, in Helena, Ark., to the late Paul B. and Virginia M. (Johnson) Collier.
She married Fred R. Huppert on June 18, 1947; he preceded her in death in 1988.
Ned W. Liechty, 62, Berne, died Wednesday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
Among survivors are his wife, Geney Liechty of Berne; two sons, Nathan (Sheri) Liechty of Bluffton and Luke Liechty of Berne; and a daughter, Elizabeth Liechty of Berne.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at First Missionary Church. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will follow in MRE Cemetery in Berne.
Michael Razo, 46, of Decatur, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Meadowvale Nursing Home in Bluffton.
Mike was born on May 28, 1967, in Decatur to the late Genaro and Mary (Ortiz) Razo.
Mike was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Msgr. J.J. Seimetz Countil 864. He had worked for Bi-County Services for 25 years.
