    FORT WAYNE— The Braves used a big homerun late in the game from Brett Baker to overcome a Northrop lead and hold on for the 3-2 victory in non-conference play Saturday.
    In another grudge-match on the mound, Braves pitcher Parker Zeser went toe-to-toe with Northrop's Michael Kage and the two did not disappoint holding the potent offenses to just five runs on 13 scattered hits in the game...............................

Boston Marathon bomber sentenced to death

    BOSTON (AP) — A jury sentenced Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death Friday for the Boston Marathon bombing, sweeping aside pleas that he was just a ‘‘kid’’ who fell under the influence of his fanatical older brother.
    Tsarnaev, 21, stood with his hands folded, his head slightly bowed, upon learning his fate, decided after 14 hours of deliberations over three days. It was the most closely watched terrorism trial in the U.S. since the Oklahoma City bombing case two decades ago.

Wounded Warrior event Saturday at The Wet Spot

    The Wet Spot bar, 254 2nd St. in Decatur, will host the fourth annual Armed Forces Day event beginning at 1 p.m. today. The event is open to those 21 and older.
    Entertainment will begin at 2 p.m., featuring Filthy Rags, Jon Durnell, After School Special, Robbie V and Forever Away. There will also be a hog roast, raffles and door prizes to be given away.
    There is no cover charge for this event and donations are greatly appreciated.

Run for the Fallen still on for today

    Indiana “Run for the Fallen” kicked off this morning at 7:30 a.m. with a ceremony at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne. The ensuring three-day, 140 mile run through many cities and counties throughout Indiana, including Decatur, Berne, Geneva and Portland. The run will end Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Plaza downtown Indianapolis.
    Two Adams County residents who gave their lives in service to their country will be recognized during the Run for the Fallen event.

    Textbooks have not gone by the wayside quite yet, but that may not be the case for much longer as more schools are opting for iPads or similar devices for student instruction.
    Miriam Hopkins, technology director for North Adams Community Schools, addressed the board of education Tuesday evening to request approval for a lease option of iPads for Bellmont Middle School students.
