Schultz in opposition to construction wage repeal

    Decatur Mayor John Schultz is one of 28 mayors who have publicly opposed an attempt in the Indiana General Assembly to repeal the state’s common construction wage law.
    The law enables communities to set minimum wages for construction projects which are publicly funded and which cost more than $350,000. A panel of taxpayers and contractors establish the wages to be paid for a project.

    This happy quartet was spotted as they enjoyed a little recess time at Adams Central Wednesday afternoon as warm weather and bright sunshine moved into the area. It may be safe to say these young ladies’ smiles sum up the feelings of many area residents.


Decatur egg hunt is Saturday

    Adams Memorial Hospital and WZBD radio, in conjunction with area merchants, will host the Great Easter Egg Hunt in Decatur beginning at noon Saturday. The event will take place in the grassy area behind Riverside Center.

Local jobless rate 4.8% in February

    Adams County’s unemployment rate during February was 4.8 percent, according to statistics released Monday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
    That figure was the lowest in the county since October of last year, when the county’s unemployment rate dipped to 4.6 percent. The county’s jobless rate was 6 percent in February of 2014.

Glass may be recycled once again

     After announcing two weeks ago that the Adams County Solid Waste Management District would no longer accept glass for recycling, an announcement Tuesday from ACSWMD Director Hank Mayer reversed that decision and stated the center is again accepting glass.
The announcement clarifies that glass “must be clean and free of contaminates.” All colors may be co-mingled; beer and drink bottles, mayonnaise, pickle jars and other similar food containers are acceptable.

A day on the trail

    With temperatures approaching 60 degrees on Tuesday, Amanda Luce and her companion, Bella, enjoyed a run along the River Greenway Trail in Decatur. Today’s forecast calls for continued mild temperatures, although rain is predicted again on Thursday and Friday.

Celina too much for BHS; Beery, McNamara post wins

    CELINA—Bellmont opened its spring sports calendar Tuesday afternoon traveling to the Buckeye state for a triangular boys and girls track meet for the first action of the season for Bellmont teams.
    Celina's powerful teams easily won both meets scoring 91 in the boys event as compared to 46 for Spencerville and 38 for the Braves while the girls match found the Squaws actually winning more events than Celina but losing to them 96-54 while Spencerville trailed with 25.

Lehman dismayed at tenor of debate

    State Rep. Matt Lehman early today responded to the national backlash that grew over the weekend surrounding a bill signed into law last week by Indiana Gov. Mike Pence that critics claim discriminates against gays and lesbians.
    Lehman, R-Berne, voted in favor of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act that was approved in both chambers and sent to Pence for his signature.

    Rice, soy and other nutritional food items were packaged Saturday at Wyneken Memorial Lutheran School for distribution to needy children in Adams and Wells counties. The Pack Away Hunger event was made possible by a grant from the Lutheran Foundation, as well as grants from churches, businesses, industry and private individuals.
