    Charlene M. Shoup, 80, Decatur, passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital. Charlene was born in Decatur Dec. 4, 1933, to the late Charles D. and Mabel (Ladd) Eyanson. She married Robert Shoup Oct. 31, 1953; he survives.

Magdalene E. Butcher

    Magdalene E. Butcher, 101, Decatur, died Friday, Oct.3, 2014, at Woodcrest Nursing Center. She was born in Adams County Jan. 3, 1913, to the late John Henry and Ida (Egly) Borne. On Aug. 8, 1935, she married Robert C. Butcher; he preceded her in death Oct.7, 1998.
  She was a member a St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, the Faith Circle and the Historical Club.

Roderick Edwin Farmer

    Roderick Edwin Farmer, 72, Rockford, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at the Laurels of Shane Hill.
    Surviving are his second wife, Yvonne Beeks; one daughter and two step-sons: Anita Renee (Kevin) Morton of Rockford, Ohio; Dave (Kazumi) Grimm of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jon Grimm of Nampa, Idaho. A brother, John (Judy) Farmer of Rockford, also survives, along with five grandchildren.

Braves snipe North for sectional title

KINGSLAND— Despite less than ideal conditions on a breezy, cold and damp Saturday morning, Bellmont took care of the Huntington North Vikings in the tennis sectional championship at Norwell, 4-1.
The title is the Braves' fourth in school history and first since the 2006 season. Bellmont had fallen to Adams Central in the championship the last two seasons and finally pushed for the championship after besting the Jets and the Bluffton Tigers, 4-1, as well.

Cold weather hampers Lehman Harvest Festival, not spirits

     Brittany Hernandez and  Amy Schwartz volunteered their services Saturday at the Lehman Park Harvest Festival helping youngsters decorate their pumpkins for the upcoming Halloween holiday.

 

More women needed in politics, says Indiana rep

     An Indiana congresswoman active in efforts to get more women involved in politics doesn’t think female voters would automatically rally around Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.
 Republican Rep. Susan Brooks also said it’s unfortunate that the United States hasn’t had a female president while many other countries have been led by women, and that she would like to see female candidates on both major parties’ national tickets.

Monroe plans hydrant flush

     The Town of Monroe Water Department will be testing fire hydrants and flushing water mains throughout the community Oct. 13-17.
Residents are asked to avoid doing laundry until late afternoon during the week to avoid getting rust on clothing.
