What to do with Worthman Field?

    A little-known fact surfaced during the North Adams board of education meeting Tuesday evening when Superintendent of Schools Brent Lehman informed the board the district still owns Worthman Field, located at the corner of 13th and Adams streets in Decatur.
    The question, Lehman said, was what to do with the land.

School closings and delays

     (6:59 a.m.) All three Adams County public school systems, St. Joseph Catholic and Wyneken Lutheran Memorial schools are operating on a 2 hour delay this morning due to fog. Also running on a 2 hour delay are Northern and Southern Wells schools, and Crestview Local, Parkway Local and Van Wert City in neighboring Ohio. Jay County is running on a 3 hour delay at this time. We will update this information as it becomes available.

First set of bids for rural sewer higher than engineer’s estimate

    After more than five years of planning and negotiations, Adams County’s first-ever rural sewer collection system took a giant step toward reality on Tuesday with the opening of the first of two sets of construction bids for the project.
    The estimated $5 million sewer project is designed to serve approximately 270 rural customers from Monmouth and Roe Acres to Bobo and Pleasant Mills. 

North Adams BOE hears options for future renovations

    Renovations to the Bellmont high school-middle school campus may become a reality sooner rather than later if all goes according to plan.
    Superintendent of Schools Brent Lehman told the North Adams board of education in January that by 2020, all mortgages currently held by the district will be paid off, freeing funds for much-needed repairs.

Drug court moves toward reality

    Drug Free Adams County Executive Director Kelly Sickafoose and Superior Court Judge Patrick Miller appeared before the Adams County Commissioners Monday  and the Adams County Council Tuesday to ask for their approval in accepting a $4,000 grant from Drug Free Adams County to establish a drug court here.
    To meet the state guidelines for creating a drug court, “we need a qualified training coordinator,” and Sickafoose is the only one with all those specific qualifications, Miller said.

    Elaine Shafley, owner of Shafley Plan Management Services, Plain City, Ohio, appeared before the Adams County Commissioners Monday morning to update them on changes she has recommended or negotiated on the county’s behalf to reduce the cost of insuring its employees.

    Paul Chodak III, president and chief operating officer of Indiana Michigan Power, was the featured speaker Monday at the monthly Decatur Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Indiana Michigan Power provides electrical service to customers in northern Indiana and southern Michigan. American Electric Power, I&M’s parent company, spans 11 states and has a system of 38,000 megawatts of electricity.

Bellmont pushes through with locker room building plan

    The North Adams Athletic Fund Community was granted $2250.00 from the Adams County Community Foundation that enables the planning for the first project, the Bellmont Stadium Locker Room Complex. The money was used to fund a portion of the design work for this project.
