William Lester Habegger, 95, Berne, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at his Swiss Village home. He was born near Berne Nov. 19, 1919, to the late Joseph and Mary (Nussbaum) Habegger, and grew up on a farm south of Monroe. He married Agnes Sprunger on Apil 16, 1941. Together they lived a beautiful love story of 73 years.
Elwin S. VanEmon, 79, Fort Wayne, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2014.
Among survivors are his brother, Kenneth (Eula) VanEmon of Berne; sister, Janice (Jim) Hubert of St. Louis, Mo.; 19 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Lutheran Life Villages in Fort Wayne, with Rev. Mike Wakeland officiating. Internment will follow in the Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
Visitation is from 2-3 p.m. Monday at Lutheran Life Villages.

Unemployment rates in Adams and all surrounding counties inched higher during November but nonetheless remained below Indiana’s overall jobless rate, according to statistics released Monday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
Adams County’s November unemployment rate stood at 5.0 percent, up from 4.6 percent one month earlier. One year ago the county’s unemployment rate was at 6.3 percent. Jobless rates in the county peaked at 15.2 percent in July of 2010.

Winifred R. “Winnie” Conn, 88, Van Wert, died at 3:20 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at Hearth & Home of Van Wert. She was born in Decatur Dec. 25, 1925, to the late Martha (Hainey) Shoaf and Roy Shoaf.
Winnie, a homemaker, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and Frank enjoyed many retirement winters together in Florida.
Her husband, Frank H. Conn, survives in Van Wert. They were married Nov. 26, 1953.

Rose Ann Steinbrunner-Smitley, 83, Geneva, passed away at 11:25 p.m., Dec. 17, 2014, at Chalet Village Nursing Home, Berne, IN.
She was born in Washington Township in Mercer, Ohio Sept. 12, 1931, to John and Zita (King) Steinbrunner. On Oct. 8, 1949, in Bedford, Ky. she married Joyce V. Smitley; they were married for 65 years.
She worked at General Electric in Decatur, IN., for 35 years before she retired.
