    The reaction by 21-month-old Katelyn Garner to spotting the cows during her first-ever visit to the 4-H Fair was one of great excitement. Katelyn is the daughter of Eric and Jodi Garner of Decatur.

Grover W. Heckert

July 23, 2014

    Grover W. Heckert, 58, Monroe, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014.
    He was born Friday, Nov. 11, 1955, the son of the late James and Lillian (Lintemoot) Heckert. 
    Grover married Nancy M. Tinkham Brown June 7, 1987, in Monroe; she survives.

Annual 4-H parade draws large crowd

     Floats and marching bands and, of course, a few politicians were part of the lineup as the annual Adams County 4-H Fair parade wound its way through Monroe Tuesday evening. The fair entered its final two days today and will be culminated with the livestock auction sale beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Golden Meadows benefit auction termed best ever; $7,600 netted

    The June 21 benefit auction to raise money for the Golden Meadows Home Special Needs Resident Fund was “the most successful ever,” Administrator Tom Magnan reported to the Adams County Commissioners at their meeting Monday.
    The auction, the 20th annual benefit event held at the county facility, netted $7,665, Magnan told commissioners. He stated the auction itself grossed $6,904, while food sales ($485.91), a pair of raffles ($234) and $625 in cash donations brought total revenues to $8,249.

4-H Fair Ambassadors named

Pending appraisal, county will buy Winchester Street parcel for $1.1 million as new jail site

    It appears the proposed new Adams County jail may finally have found a home.
    The Adams County Council and the Adams County Commissioners met in executive session Monday morning to discuss the possibility of purchasing a 162-acre tract of unimproved farmland on the south side of Decatur along Winchester Street.

Commish in Lutheran ICU after surgery

     Adams County Commissioner Kim Fruechte is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne following emergency surgery to stop bleeding of his kidney. County Commission President Doug Bauman gave the news surrounding Fruechte’s medical condition immediately prior to Monday morning’s meeting of the Adams County Solid Waste Management District.
