William Lester Habegger

December 26, 2014

    William Lester Habegger, 95, Berne, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at his Swiss Village home. He was born near Berne Nov. 19, 1919, to the late Joseph and Mary (Nussbaum) Habegger, and grew up on a farm south of Monroe. He married Agnes Sprunger on Apil 16, 1941. Together they lived a beautiful love story of 73 years.

Highway assistant supervisor hired

    Mark Habegger has been selected by Adams County Highway Department Engineer Tim Barkey as his new second assistant supervisor.
    Habegger will replace  Ryan Stahly, who was initially named to the first assistant position but subsequently resigned from the highway department. Barkey reported he received three applications for the job, but one of the three did not have a CDL license — a requirement for the position.

ACCF awards grant to Hope Clinic for website

    The Adams County Community Foundation recently awarded a grant to the Hope Clinic, an organization that offers support and assistance to couples facing an unplanned pregnancy.

Mysterious sighting

     Local law enforcement agencies received numerous reports of an unidentified flying object in the skies over Adams County late Wednesday night and into the early morning hours of Thursday. No confirmation of exactly what the UFO may have been was obtained, but many of those reporting sightings said they heard a faint “Ho Ho Ho” that accompanied the flying object. The photo above was snapped along C.R. 850N near Monmouth.

VIDEO: Bears say Clausen will miss finale because of concussion
Chicago Bears quarterback Jimmy Clausen will miss the final game of the season because of a concussion, and Jay Cutler will move back into the lineup. The Bears say Clausen was injured on a helmet-to-helmet hit by Detroit's Ezekiel Ansah while scrambling late in Sunday's loss to the Lions. Ansah received an unnecessary roughness penalty.

Sue Ann Gallaway

    Sue Ann Gallaway, 68, Van Wert, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at her residence. She was born in Van Wert Aug. 29, 1946, to the late Marjorie E. and Lloyd Oechsle. Sue married James Gallaway Feb. 28, 1965. He survives.
    Sue worked at Central Insurance Company for 43 years. She was a member of St. Pauls Reformed Church. She enjoyed spending her time with family and friends.

Joshua D. Garnett

    Joshua D. Garnett, 39, Decatur, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, as a result of a traffic accident. Joshua was born in Adams County Jan. 1, 1975, to the late Robert and Sharon (Fisher) Garnett.
    Joshua was employed by Don Ray Drive Away.

Elwin S. VanEmon

    Elwin S. VanEmon, 79, Fort Wayne, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2014.
    Among survivors are his brother, Kenneth (Eula) VanEmon of Berne; sister, Janice (Jim) Hubert of St. Louis, Mo.; 19 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Lutheran Life Villages in Fort Wayne, with Rev. Mike Wakeland officiating. Internment will follow in the Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
    Visitation is from 2-3 p.m. Monday at Lutheran Life Villages.
