The Bellmont 200 freestyle relay team, of Jay Watters, Austin McCord, Matt Mock, and Zac Torrey, broke the record last night going 1:32.69, beating the existing record of 1:33.39 as the BHS boys beat the Knights 98-87 in an NHC meet.
The boys move to 7-2 on the season and finish the conference season with a 3-2 record. The girls easily won that meet, 110-75 over the Lady East Noble Knights.

Bellmont had five No. 1 seeds and South Adams four after the Jay County Sectional Wrestling Seeding meeting Monday night.
Brooks Faurote at 140, John Mahlan at 160, Ryley Hankenson at 171, Travis Thatcher at 215 and unbeaten heavyweight Daniel Meyer are the top seeds for the Braves as they seek a 21st straight sectional crown Saturday at Jay County.
Jacob Girod at 112, Bobby Keuneke at 119 and Ben Baker at 189 are the seconds seeds for the Braves.
On the final roll of the sectional championship roll-off, Bellmont's A.J. McCoy knocked down nine pins and it was just enough as he successfully defended his individual singles sectional crown by beating Huntington North's E.J. Tackett 204-203.
It was a step-ladder playoff, so McCoy had to win three head-to-head matches after a 629 (256, 193, 180) series to qualify fourth among the final four. It was held at the Bowling Center in Bluffton.

FORT WAYNE — "We just had too many fifth places," admitted Bellmont coach Brent Faurote Saturday evening after Carroll knocked off the No. 8 Braves to win its first-ever NHC wrestling crown.
The Chargers, with all 14 placing and only one fifth place, compiled 240 points with four champions to the 228.5 points of Bellmont, which had three champs, but four fifth-pace efforts.
An unlikely hero stepped forward to hit a critical three-point shot for the Homestead Spartans with 5:12 to play in the fourth period Saturday night at the Teepee and the shot propelled the Spartans to a 57-42 Northeast Hoosier Conference boys basketball win over the Bellmont Braves.

WOODBURN — South Adams had three champions and all 14 wrestlers placed Saturday as the No. 19 Starfires captured the ACAC Wrestling Tourney title with 221.5 points to the 190 of Garrett and 186.5 of Adams Central.
The tourney win gives the Starfires the outright ACAC wrestling championship as it goes along with the 7-0 record for the Stars in the ACAC dual-meet competition.
MONROE — Adams Central's girls basketball team played lock-down defense against Leo to score a huge 50-44 upset in the ACAC game played Saturday at Central, reversing a 36-point loss to the Lady Lions just nine days ago in the ACAC tourney.
"We held a pretty good shooting team to 29 percent and our girls put on a tremendous effort to out-rebound a much bigger 37-29," stated Central Coach Sam Beer.

FORT WAYNE — Homestead assured itself of at least a share of the Northeast Hoosier Conference title in girls basketball Friday night belting out an 81-55 victory over the Bellmont Squaws at the Spartans gym.
The win for Homestead moved them to 15-2 on the season and 6-0 in the NHC. Their last conference contest is next weekend against DeKalb (8-7, 3-2) but the Spartans have already defeated pre-season favorite Norwell (15-1, 5-1). Bellmont fell to 1-5 in NHC action and is 7-9 for the year.
BLUFFTON — Ten days ago, Adams Central got field goals and free throws late in the game to seal a long-sought victory over Bluffton, 59-54.
Last night, it was the homestanding Tigers who got late baskets and foul shots to ice a 50-41 win that was also a key conference victory.
Most of the sports talk-show "experts" feel that the Green Bay Packers' Rodgers is the best of the four quarterbacks remaining in the NFL playoffs, and that the Packers will walk into Soldier Field Sunday and sack the Bears, earning a Super Bowl spot.
Okay, Rodgers has a year of experience on the Jets' Mark Sanchez. He's better than the unpredictable Jay Cutler of Chicago. But better than Ben (I've done my penance) Roethlisberger of Pittsburgh, who has a pair of the gaudy rings? I don't think so.
