Softball tryouts on Sunday

September 8, 2011

    Girls age 10 and over as of January 1, 2012, who are interested in playing on a travel softball team next summer should plan on attending a tryout session Sunday, September 11 at the Bellmont High School field from 5-6 p.m.
    In case of inclement weather, the tryout will be held in the Bellmont High School auxiliary gym.

$3,747 raised for cancer fight

    The ladies of Decatur Golf Association recently held their annual Susan G. Komen Rally for the Cure Tournament.
    Seventy women golfed and 76 sponsors participated,
    A record-breaking $3,747 was raised to fight breast cancer, the association announced.
    The rally committee — Carol Hackman, Ann Bixler, Janeen Lanham and Vanessa Feasel — issued thanks and appreciation to golfers and sponsors for turning Cross Creek "pink" for a day.

SA, Jets, Squaws all snare volleyball wins

    All three Adams County schools were victorious on the volleyball court Tuesday night with both Adams Central and South Adams opening their ACAC seasons with triumphs and Bellmont visiting North Side in Fort Wayne for a three-game sweep.
    Chelsea Bollenbacher and Lily Taing provided the momentum for South Adams enroute to a 25-22, 25-9, 25-22 win over Southern Wells.

AC netters clip Stars 3-2

    MONROE—County rivals Adams Central and South Adams squared off on the tennis courts at AC Tuesday night and the Jets swept the doubles competition to squeeze out a 3-2 win over the Starfires in an ACAC  varsity match.

Boucher, Faurote pace BHS

    NORTH MANCHESTER—Crown Point easily won the boys and girls title of the Manchester Cross Country Invitational Saturday in a 10-team  field that included Bellmont.
    Both Bellmont teams placed one runner in the top 10 in individual competition with Evan Boucher placing seventh overall in 17:40 while Cadence Faurote earned tenth place status for the Squaws in 21:54.45.

    During one of his famous tirades against the media for what he perceived was biased and unfair coverage, Richard M. Nixon brashly announced at a rambling press conference (after he had been defeated for the position of Governor in California in the 1960s) "you won't have Nixon to kick around around anymore."
    As I was traveling up to Lutheran Hospital last week to see DDD sports editor Jim Hopkins I wasn't sure about what I would encounter.

Squaws oust Snider; AC takes Luers in five

    “Holly had a really good night on offense for us. It was just one of those nights where she was on and we told the setters to get her the ball as much as they could,” noted Bellmont volleyball coach Craig Krull in analyzing one of the main reasons the Squaws handled the visiting Snider Panthers in three games, 25-22, 25-13, 25-13 at the Teepee.

Seniors lead way to 6-0 kick win

    Appropriately enough, all three seniors on the Bellmont boys varsity soccer team found the back of the net on Senior Night Thursday evening as the Braves posted a 6-0 non-conference victory over the Woodlan Warriors.
    Senior Alex Hammond, who had scored a hat trick a night before in a win over NHC foe Norwell, tallied twice for the Braves against Woodlan while fellow twelfth graders Dan Worth and Jacob Schueler each added one score. Rounding out the offense for Bellmont were scores by Andy Hess and Willie Mahlan.

Hopkins recovering after heart attack

    Veteran Daily Democrat sports editor Jim Hopkins is a patient at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne after suffering a heart attack Monday afternoon.
    Hopkins underwent a cardiac catheterization on Tuesday morning and results showed some damage to his heart but doctors are optimistic about his recovery. He said he was feeling much better and he was hoping to be discharged from the hospital today or Friday at the latest.

BCI Remodeling nabs city golf championship

    BCI Remodeling won the league championship of the Cross Creek Men’s Golf Association Sunday taking out Hi-Way Service with a gross score of 320-361 and after the handicap was figured in BCI held a  289-307 advantage.
