BHS takes rain-shortened event

September 15, 2011

    Rain washed out the number two singles match in the Bellmont-South Adams tennis encounter Wednesday evening at the BHS courts but the Braves prevailed in three of the other four matches for a non-conference victory over the Starfires.
    In a battle of number one players, Bellmont's Payton Selking continued his strong season with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Alex Huber while in the other singles match at number three, Mark Muselman got the only South Adams point with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Evan Selking.

Squaws go on offense to blitz Railroaders 11-0

    Bellmont scored early and often in a lopsided victory over Garrett in non-conference varsity soccer play Tuesday night, 11-0
    Nearly three minutes into the game, BHS forward Taylor Kennedy scored a goal with the assist coming from Megan Schueler. This combination connected once again four minutes later for the Squaws second goal for a 2-0 edge and four minutes later Schueler scored a goal of her own to increase the lead to 3-0.

Liechty, Shane finish one-two at Spencerville

    SPENCERVILLE, OHIO—A strong finish by the South Adams boys cross country team at the Spencerville Invitational last Saturday including a one-two finish by Evan Liechty and Brody Shane helped South Adams claim the team championship with just 56 points out of 18 teams.

Squaws get competition, split at New Castle

    NEW CASTLE—Bellmont coach Craig Krull has always espoused the theory that his team will only get better by playing the better teams in volleyball and the Squaws moved to 11-4 this weekend by splitting a pair of games with ranked foes in the annual New Castle Invitational.

Stars 2nd, Squaws 7th at Spencerville

    SPENCERVILLE, OHIO—South Adams captured three of the top 11 places in the 35th annual Spencerville Bearcat Cross Country Invitational Saturday and was narrowly edged out of first place by Shawnee (Ohio) by a 49 to 69 county.

No. 3 Squaws tune-up for New Castle with three-game Lakewood sweep

    The Bellmont volleyball machine, ranked third in class 3A in the current statewide poll, tuned up for this weekend's meat grinder known as the New Castle Volleyball Invitational with an easy three-game sweep of Lakewood Park Christian Thursday night at the Teepee.
    The Squaws handled Lakewood without much difficulty in the first two games by counts of 25-8 and 25-7 and then notched a 25-15 tally in the third and final game.

SA knocks off Bluffton

    BERNE—A competitive ACAC volleyball match fell into the South Adams win column Thursday night as the Starfires withstood several Bluffton rallies to win the varsity match in three straight games, 25-23, 25-19, 25-19.
    Chelsea Bollenbacher dominated the front line for the Starfires knocking down 20 kills. She also added seven digs and four blocks for the SA team.

Softball tryouts on Sunday

    Girls age 10 and over as of January 1, 2012, who are interested in playing on a travel softball team next summer should plan on attending a tryout session Sunday, September 11 at the Bellmont High School field from 5-6 p.m.
    In case of inclement weather, the tryout will be held in the Bellmont High School auxiliary gym.

$3,747 raised for cancer fight

    The ladies of Decatur Golf Association recently held their annual Susan G. Komen Rally for the Cure Tournament.
    Seventy women golfed and 76 sponsors participated,
    A record-breaking $3,747 was raised to fight breast cancer, the association announced.
    The rally committee — Carol Hackman, Ann Bixler, Janeen Lanham and Vanessa Feasel — issued thanks and appreciation to golfers and sponsors for turning Cross Creek "pink" for a day.

SA, Jets, Squaws all snare volleyball wins

    All three Adams County schools were victorious on the volleyball court Tuesday night with both Adams Central and South Adams opening their ACAC seasons with triumphs and Bellmont visiting North Side in Fort Wayne for a three-game sweep.
    Chelsea Bollenbacher and Lily Taing provided the momentum for South Adams enroute to a 25-22, 25-9, 25-22 win over Southern Wells.
