Eight county grapplers want moment on podium

February 16, 2012

"We've really been trying to focus on not being content just making it to state. All the kids want to medal, especially Todd (Batt) who has been there twice and come up short both times," said South Adams Coach Eric Myers, who will take three wrestlers to Banker's Life Fieldhouse tomorrow night for the 74th running of the IHSAA State Wrestling Tournament.
Batt will go at 132 and comes in as a top seed, while frosh Sawyer Miller is a No. 2 seed at 106 and junior Lane Moser is a No. 4 at 113 pounds.

February 15, 2012

This just in: there's no truth to the rumor that Adams Central's school board has renamed the boys' varsity "The Steamrolling Jets."
It only seems like that after AC's 14-2 squad ran off with a 70-48 decision on Tuesday over Southwood, the third game in a row won by more than 20 points.

Brooks Faurote, according to the Indianamat.com IHSAA State Wrestling preview, is the field's best chance to stop three-time state champ Jason Tsirtsis from matching the four state title resume of his older brother, Alex.
And that from a group which doesn't exactly gush about the Bellmont wrestling program, though statistics don't lie, the Braves are, have been, and will be the best in northeast Indiana. Look it up!

February 10, 2012

By DYLAN MALONE
AUBURN — In what came down to what Bellmont coach John Baker would call a lack of "fire", the Braves went down in flames on the road at DeKalb last night in a conference match-up with the Barons, 45-33.
"It's the end of the year. These seniors should have a sense of urgency and we just don't have it right now," lamented coach Baker.
