Bellmont gets another shot at Panthers

    "This is not the first game Eastbrook wanted either," stated veteran Panthers' coach Jeff Adamson, noting the draw for the first round of the IHSAA State 3A football playoffs.
    Eastbrook, rated No. 1 by the Associated Press, will be at Bob Worthman Stadium for the 7 p.m. game Friday in a rematch of the 34-0 surprise rout by the Panthers a year ago.

Barger runs into a hot Najev of Dwenger in regional tennis final

    Adams Central sophomore Nathan Barger won his first Kokomo Regional Singles Tourney match, pounding Zach Saylor of Peru 6-1, 6-1. However, Barger fell to Bishop Dwenger's Betrum Najev, 7-5, 6-2 in the title match.
    Barger finished a sterling season at 22-2.
    "Nathan played some of his best tennis this Saturday. Nejev was in the zone (for the finals match)," stated Adams Central Coach Michael Hower.

7th grade Jets cop ACAC title

    Adams Central's seventh grade volleyball team went undefeated this season, racking up a 20-0 mark, going 9-0 in the ACAC, and winning the conference tournament by beating Garrett and Heritage.
    Coach Becky Brown congratulated her players by saying, "They never had to go three games with any opponent all season and they defeated three previously unbeaten teams: Norwell, Bellmont, and Leo.

Starfire runners earn semistate slots; Boucher moves on

    MARION — Both the Bellmont boys and girls cross country teams competed well Saturday at the Marion CC Regionals, and both finished in eighth place, three places short of qualifying for semistate action.
    South Adams did better as both teams made it out, qualifying fourth in both races. Hannah Moore finished sixth in the girls race with a 19:17. Eric Isch led the boys with a 9th-pace finish in 16:06 for the Stars.

Squaws sharp in pair of wins

    Bellmont held off a solid Wapahani squad, winning 25-23 in the first game, then taking the next two, 25-17, 25-20, to complete a 29-4 regular season.
    The Squaws also downed Wes-Del in three (23, 17, 20) in the earlier match Saturday. Adams Central fell to both Wes-Del and Wapahani in the other two matches at the Bellmont Quad.
    "Wes-Del was undersized, but definitely did a nice job against us," stated BHS coach Craig Krull.

Squaws enjoy Senior Night festivities; rout Jay in three

    Bellmont's volleyball team enjoyed Senior Night festivities Thursday and, by the way, the Squaws downed Jay County in three games, 25-15, 25-8, and 25-14.
    "That's something I started when I first started coaching here, to start the seniors and let them play in the first game. Considering what they've gone through, they deserve to play," stated head coach Criag Krull. It worked out Thursday that all six BHS seniors played that first game together.

Starfires’ Eric Isch makes the most of his cross country year

    When South Adams lines up at the Marion Boys Cross Country Regional Saturday, they'll be led by senior Eric Isch.
    A year ago, Isch wasn't on the team. Two years ago, Isch wasn't on this team, or any team.
    "He was working on the farm and on getting his pilot's license. Guess he got bored with that," stated South Adams coach Clint Anderson.
    Classmates, know Isch's potential, talked him into running track last spring, his first endeavor as a prep athlete.

High-flying Knights to test BHS

October 14, 2010

    Bellmont will be playing for a winning season against offensive powerhouse East Noble Friday, while Adams Central eyes a 7-2 regular season finish with a win against Woodlan, and South Adams will try for four straight wins at Southern Wells.
    The Braves might have to go without all-time leading rusher Daniel Meyer, who is still suffering some affects of a sprained ankle. He's been rehabbing all week and hopes to play.

Squaws zap Wayne for 26-4 mark

    Bellmont blasted Wayne in all three games of varsity volleyball on Tuesday to give the Squaws a 26-4 record. The scores were 25-16, 25-9, and 25-12.
    Here are the BHS stats:
    Alex Fuelling led the way with 16 kills in 21 attempts, with three digs, two block assists, two aces, and one assist. Madison Schultz put down six kills, three aces, two block assists, one block, one dig for Bellmont.

Moore earns lst; Stars 2nd, Squaws 5th in CC Sectional

    South Adams' Hannah Moore took control of the race midway through and never let up, earning the individual crown at the Bellmont Girls Cross Country Sectional Tuesday afternoon as her Starfires took second and Bellmont fifth as the Squaws extended their streak of regional qualifying to 17 straight.
    Heavily-favored Homestead won the meet, taking four of the top seven places for 27 points to the 82 of South adams and 98 of Norwell. Woodlan took fourth with a 140.
