Braves look to play spoiler in NHC bouts

January 18, 2013

"There's going to be a good team race Saturday at the NHC, but it will be East Noble and Carroll. We're going to have to wrestle well to get third," stated Bellmont wrestling coach Brent Faurote, stating the unthinkable in years past.
Bellmont, which has dominated NHC wrestling, and NEIAC wrestling before that, will not have a part of an conference wrestling championship for the first time in 23 years Saturday after the dust settles at DeKalb High School.

January 17, 2013

Adams Central started the ACAC campaign with a narrow loss to Leo, but the 1A state champion Jets can get a share of the loop crown by taking care of business at Saturday's tourney at South Adams.
The Jets have four top seeds, two seconds and 12 overall to the three firsts, three seconds and 10 overall of Leo. South Adams, also a contender, has three top seeds and three seconds with nine overall seeds.
The Jets are defending champs, having won both the dual meet season and tourney a year ago.

Saylor, Eastbrook too much early; down Jets, 41-34

January 16, 2013

MONROE—The Eastbrook Lady Panthers, led by sophomore center Brooke Saylor, ruined AC's coaches vs. cancer game at the Hangar with a 41-34 win against the Lady Jets.
Saylor was cancerous in her own right, at least to the Jets' defense. The center was the benefactor of several lobs down low in the first half resulting in Saylor scoring 23 of Eastbrook's 25 points.

Hot-shooting Garrett holds off Squaws, 48-32

January 16, 2013

Garrett—Almost everyone was looking at the scoreboard as Bellmont dropped a 48-32 to Garrett Tuesday in non-conference girls basketball action.
But Bellmont coach Andy Heim was quick to talk about his teams defense.
He explained when a team is shooting as hot as Garrett was in the first half, his troops had to stay focused.
Common sense says even with the Railroader team hitting close to 60 percent, by coach Heim’s estimation, it could only last so long.

The Norwell pressure caused immediate and constant woes for the Squaws during the game evidenced by the fact that even though Bellmont shot 83.3 percent from the field in the first period, they still trailed 18-10 at the buzzer.
