Bellmont varsity football coach Larry Getts noted today that his offensive coordinator is Chad Taylor and his defensive coordinator Marty Ballard, a veteran BHS assistant coach.
Also from last year's staff, Greg Koons will be co-special teams coach along with Matt Hunter. Jerry Hurst, an assistant coach and trainer last year, is back as an assistant coach and former player John Shifferly is on the Getts' staff.
Dan Boocher is freshman coordinator.
In the recent Ethel May Ladies Open Golf tourney, the Cross Creek Ladies Golf Association honored veteran Decatur Golfer Sue Kalver.
The tourney, named for Ethel May Sanmann, one of the early stalwarts for women's golf in Adams County, honors a woman golfer each year for her contribution to the sport in Decatur. The ladies association voted this year to honor Kalver.
All Adams Central High School and Middle School athletes are required to purchase a $25 all-sport pass for admission to all high school and middle school athletic events. It will not be good for tournaments.
This pass must be purchased prior to a student participating in the first sporting event. Funds from the required passes will be go toward funding athletic expenses.
Students may also purchase an all-sport pass for $25. Elementary students will pay $20 for an all-sport pass. Adults will pay $42.
The home team from Monroe won the 2011 Brickhouse Baseball Tournament for 14-year-olds and under by a commanding 16-6 score over New Haven on Sunday.
The Monroe squad had 10 hits, led by Koty Frauhiger's triple, two doubles by Clayton Harkless, a double by Justin Fuentes, two singles from Carter Sharp, and two singles by Eli Hill.
New Haven managed seven hits, topped by Masellett's double and single and two singles by Graham.
WICHITA, Ka. — Holly Hankenson, who will be a sophomore at Bellmont High School this fall, finished fifth in the nation, earning All-American status, in the USA Junior National Track and Field Heptathlon competition, which concluded Sunday.
Hankenson qualified for the USA Junior Nationals by winning the Region 7 Heptathlon competition.
Hankenson won the shot put and 800 sections of the Heptathlon, going a strong 2:24 in the final 800 event.
The Adams Central Football Mothers' Club will conduct its annual chicken barbecue on Saturday, August 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Adams Central Cafetorium.
Both dine-in and carry-out meals will be available.
The meal will consist of one-half of a Nelson's chicken, baked beans, choice of slaw, applesauce or potato salid, roll, dessert and a drink. Cost will be $7.
Paperwork must be turned into coaches or to the athletic departments before varsity athletes will be able to participate in fall practices, it was noted by area athletic directors. Golf practices begin today while most of the rest of the fall sports will begin with officials practices on Monday, Aug. 1.
Bellmont Athletic Director Dale Manis that the following items are necessary: IHSAA approved physical exam form, medical consent card, BHS Athletic Code of Conduct sheets, and Legal Reporting Waiver form.
The Hoosier East Baseball Alliance (HEBA) All-Stars finished second in the Monmouth eight and under tournament finished Thursday night by falling to Elmhurst 13-7 in the title game.
The HEBA stars had defeated New Haven 11-1 and avenged an earlier loss to Hoagland with a 16-4 triumph to reach the title contest.
The Arnold's Construction 10-U Decatur All-Stars recently concluded its postseason campaign with a 2-2 showing at the Hoagland 10-U All-Star Baseball Tournament.
Arnold's fell to the Harlan All-Stars 10-5, downed New Haven 8-5, stopped Monroeville 13-7, and fell to Kendallville 6-3. The two teams which defeated the local squad made it to the finals of the tourney.
The Decatur City Golf Tourney and the Greater Hoagland Open are two area golf tournaments slated for the coming weeks.
Cross Creek owner-operator Terry Laurent announced today that the Decatur City Golf Championship will take place August 6 and 7 at the Cross Creek Golf Club in Decatur.
Entry fee is 25.00 per person. Competitors will make their own foursomes on Saturday by 1:00 p.m. Sunday tee times will be flighted and start at 9:00 a.m.
