The Hoosier East Baseball Alliance (HEBA) All-Stars finished second in the Monmouth eight and under tournament finished Thursday night by falling to Elmhurst 13-7 in the title game.
The HEBA stars had defeated New Haven 11-1 and avenged an earlier loss to Hoagland with a 16-4 triumph to reach the title contest.
The Arnold's Construction 10-U Decatur All-Stars recently concluded its postseason campaign with a 2-2 showing at the Hoagland 10-U All-Star Baseball Tournament.
Arnold's fell to the Harlan All-Stars 10-5, downed New Haven 8-5, stopped Monroeville 13-7, and fell to Kendallville 6-3. The two teams which defeated the local squad made it to the finals of the tourney.
The Decatur City Golf Tourney and the Greater Hoagland Open are two area golf tournaments slated for the coming weeks.
Cross Creek owner-operator Terry Laurent announced today that the Decatur City Golf Championship will take place August 6 and 7 at the Cross Creek Golf Club in Decatur.
Entry fee is 25.00 per person. Competitors will make their own foursomes on Saturday by 1:00 p.m. Sunday tee times will be flighted and start at 9:00 a.m.
The South Adams Athletic Department has announced athletic ticket prices for the 2011-2012 school year. Athletic Sports Passes will go on sale beginning Monday, August 8, during registration hours, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, August 9, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Following registration, passes will be on sale in the athletic office daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
VAN WERT — Noah Macklin rapped a high fastball to right field for the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth inning, bringing in Cam Voglewede with the deciding run as the Decatur Thunderbird (10-U) Travel team clipped Delphos, O. 10-9 Monday night.
Sue Kalver took top honors in the annual Whitlock Memorial Shootout against Cancer held Sunday, July 24, at Cross Creek Golf Club in Decatur.
Kalver was one of several group winners. In the playoff for the crown, she advanced to the finals and defeated Chase Ellsworth on the final hole for the overall victory.
"Everybody likes it. We're having a good time and having fun, and working hard on the seven on sevens and really gaining momentum for the season," stated Bellmont linebacker Dewey Melcher on the state of Bellmont football under new coach Larry Getts.
Melcher's obviously positive feeling for the first-year Bellmont coach seems to be shared by a good many of the BHS players, who will go at it for real in another week.
BLUFFTON — A huge eight-run rally in the top of the sixth keyed the Decatur 12-and-under All-Stars to a 13-6 win over South Adams and the pool title in the Bluffton Baseball Bash Saturday.
The Mobile Ones fell to the eventual champions from Chillicothe, O. in the Sunday playoffs and took home third place medals in the tourney.
The pairings for tonight's championship game in the Decatur Girls Junior Softball League are set with Rorick Electric having defeated German Mutual Insurance 15-1 Wednesday night in the finals of the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tourney.
Rorick's will face West End at 6 p.m. tonight at Hanna-Nuttman Park. If Rorick's wins the opener, a second game will then be played to determine the champion.
Mike Pries, South Adams Athletic Director, has announced the first practice times for the fall sports at the Berne school.
Girls golf will open the fall season with a July 29, 8 a.m. practice at the Golf Club of the Limberlost.
The rest of the varsity fall sports teams will open practice on Monday, Aug.1.
Football practice will open at 8 a.m.. at the high school practice field.
