    With the brackets set from Selection Sunday, the NCAA men's basketball tournament will officially kick off with the four play-in games on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and the second round to begin on Thursday.

MS Braves win conference title

    FORT WAYNE—Bellmont finished their season by sealing their third consecutive NHMLC tournament crown over the weekend topping the 10-team field with 314 points.
    Carroll was the only team that threatened Bellmont's dominance on the day ending second place with 301 points. Indian Springs finished third with 233 points, then East Noble with 172, Maple Creek with 164, and the host-team Summit MS with 154.
    The rest of the standings fell into place with DeKalb, Woodside, New Haven and Norwell respectively.

Bienz named Honorable Mention in NHC

    After finishing the season at 4-17 (1-6 in NHC), Bellmont can at least hang their hat on their entry to the All-Conference lists this season.
    The Braves' junior, Cameron Bienz, finished the year strong stepping in as one of coach John Baker's better scoring options as well as facilitating the Bellmont offense when senior Lance Vergara was sidelined with injuries.

Squaws qualify for nine spots at IWU

    ANDERSON—Efforts in qualifying events the past two Saturdays have resulted in the powerful Bellmont girls track team qualifying athletes for nine of the 11 events at the state indoor track event this coming Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.

    MONROE—Bellmont Middle School continued an impressive season on the mat at the Adams Central Invitational over the weekend topping the field of 11 teams with 51 points.

Squaws place 3rd place at IPFW indoor qualifier

    FORT WAYNE—Bellmont's girls track team finished third out of 14 teams in the indoor Fort Wayne Invitational - HSR Qualifier held Saturday at IPFW.
    The showing by the Bellmont team, considered by many to be one of the stronger teams in northeast Indiana this spring, pleased Coach Carl Risch who noted "it was a pretty competitive meet and I think we finished pretty much where we were expected to be."
    The Braves finished in 10th place in the field for the boys.

Blackmon, Knights blast Jets late in semis, 69-47

    BERNE—Defending sectional champion Adams Central met their end on Friday night at the hands of an athletic Bishop Luers team led by James Blackmon, Jr.
    After three quarters of back and forth runs from both teams, the Knights began to take advantage of a worn down Jets squad and won pulling away, 69-47, earning the right to face Bluffton in the sectional title game tonight at South Adams. The Tigers topped Eastside, 46-39 in game two.

Jets fly higher than Eagles, 54-33

    BERNE—From the opening tip until the final horn, Adams Central left no doubt that their regular season opening win against Churubusco was no fluke.
    The Jets (13-7) took care of business in the opening round of sectional play at South Adams Tuesday night earning a convincing 54-33 win over the Eagles (4-19) to advance to Friday night's semi-final match-up with title favorite Bishop Luers.
    Adams Central had won with a similar score, 51-34, in the opener.

ACAC names girls' conference list

    The Allen County Athletic Conference released their list of all-conference selections from the 2012-13 girls basketball season.
    It was a four-team race atop the standings this season with Garrett and Leo sharing the ACAC title during the regular season at 6-1 apiece including tournament play. Southern Wells and Woodlan shared third place honors with a 5-2 mark, while Heritage played to a 3-4 record, Adams Central finished at 2-5, South Adams went 1-6, and Bluffton sat in the basement with an 0-7 mark.

Panthers dominate boards; AC snaps 5-game win streak

    MONROE—In the fourth installment of the Lakewood Park Christian/Adams Central rivalry and senior night for the Jets at the Hangar, it was the Panthers' Wes Davidson and Blake Mann who stole the show tallying 43 of LPC's 80 points in a rout of the Jets, 80-47.
    Davidson and Mann did most of their work on the glass tallying 15 rebounds apiece (30 of the team's 44 boards) in Friday night's non-conference contest. Adams Central had only 17 rebounds in the game.
