Three-run seventh for Knights sours Stars’ opener, 6-5

    After weeks of unusually cold weather resulting in a mixture of snow and rain, then a spring break thrown in the mix, Monday night's opening day game against Norwell was the first time the South Adams Starfires baseball team had a chance to play on their diamond at Harry F. Anderson Field.
    The result was almost a surprising one until the Knights put up three big runs in the top of the seventh to edge out the Stars, 6-5, improving to 3-1 on the season.

       The following is an updated list of the DDD Beat the Pros Challenge brackets. It's been a wild tournament to this point and Wichita State has continued the trend busting everyone's brackets. Indiana's early exit was also a breaking point for more than half of the field. 

March 30th

Beat the Pros Sweet 16 completed update

    The following is the updated results after the Sweet 16 round is completed as well as a breakdown of the brackets for each score. Bellmont Braves basketball coach John Baker is leading the field with 60 points with three of his Final Four teams left but Kansas, his national champion selection, is out leaving the field open still.

    With the third round complete, just 16 teams remain and many brackets have been left in shambles after a big week for upsets. Below is a breakdown of the brackets by score followed by the top 100 brackets by name.

Beat the Pros round of 32 standings

      After an upset-stacked second round of the NCAA tournament, the most games correctly guessed out of a possible 32 was Garrett Fuelling's 26 out of 32. Looking towards the future rounds, Garrett has all of his Final Four teams intact and seven of eight Elite Eight teams.

      The lowest score was 17 but with the amount of upsets it's still anyone's contest. Below is a breakdown of the brackets by score and then a list of the top brackets as of Saturday morning.

Four Jets, two Stars named to All-ACAC boys teams

    Earlier this month, the Allen County Athletic Conference revealed its two all-conference teams for the 2012-13 boys basketball season.
    Four Jets and a pair of Starfires were named to the two conference teams, while Bluffton and Leo lead the way with three players each on the first team. Heritage had two players on the first team as well with Garrett, Southern Wells, and Woodlan netting just one player.

Jay County invited to join ACAC

The ACAC made its first move towards a shake-up on Thursday as the Allen County Athletic Conference extended an invitation to Jay County High School for membership into the conference.
    There has been no official acceptance from Jay County as they will decide this matter at the next school board meeting. The school is already mulling over a possible acceptance to the North Central Conference where they would be one of the smaller schools. In the ACAC, Jay County's numbers would be near the top of the enrollment list.

Friedt, Ruble represent DWC at state

    Caden Friedt earned three falls, then nipped Noah Beller of Valparaiso 5-4 to win the 112-pound Novice championship for the Decatur Wrestling Club in the recent ISWA State Wrestling Tournament held at Ben Davis High School recently.
    Friedt, a fifth-grader at Bellmont Middle School, was the only state champ for the DWC. Jon Ruble, a sixth-grade student at St. Joe School in Decatur, earned third place at 90 pounds in the Novice Division.

Squaws dominate for indoor state track title

    MARION — With the state championship on the line, Bellmont junior Holly Hankenson made up most of the 20 meters she needed on the first lap, then passed the Oak Hill 1600 meter relay anchor midway through the second lap and held her off with a sizzling 59.4 as the Squaws won the event and took the 2013 Small Division indoor state track crown Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University.
