Squaws edge out Jay County; Lady Jets take third

April 5, 2013

MONROE—The Bellmont girls collected blue ribbons a plenty Thursday evening in its opening triangular outdoor track meet of the season winning 12 of the 15 events but still edged out Jay County by just 10 points winning 76-66 over the Pats, while host Adams Central garnered just 11 points.
The performance was a near repeat of last year's meet but had a different team winner this year as Jay County won in 2012 despite a lopsided collection of "blues" for the Squaws.

Squaws go hitless in season opener against Bluffton, 5-1

April 4, 2013

Bellmont opened their season on Wednesday night at the Teepee but may have left their bats in Florida as Bluffton's Kaitlyn Lovell pitched a one-run no-hitter against the Squaws in a 5-1 decision.
The Squaws looked like a team who had only been on the ball diamond once this season...because they were. Tuesday night's practice was the first time coach Rich Burkhalter was able to get out on the field between the weather this month and then a spring break vacation last week.

Lady Stars get six runs in last frame; stun Patriots, 11-10

April 2, 2013

It took six and a half innings to get the hits to fall but finally, after trailing 10-5 to begin the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Starfires managed to find the holes.
South Adams put up a miraculous six on the scoreboard to shock the Jay County Patriots, 11-10 in their home opener on Tuesday night.
Down five runs heading into their last three outs, South Adams seemed all but finished but Lauren Smith started off the epic comeback by reaching first on a throwing error by relief pitcher, Abbey Vance.

Three-run seventh for Knights sours Stars’ opener, 6-5

April 1, 2013

After weeks of unusually cold weather resulting in a mixture of snow and rain, then a spring break thrown in the mix, Monday night's opening day game against Norwell was the first time the South Adams Starfires baseball team had a chance to play on their diamond at Harry F. Anderson Field.
The result was almost a surprising one until the Knights put up three big runs in the top of the seventh to edge out the Stars, 6-5, improving to 3-1 on the season.
