Koufax tourney in full go

June 20, 2013

    True Value and the Monroe Crushers moved on in the Koufax tournament on Tuesday night at Worthman Field in Decatur.
    The Crushers downed the SA Gold team in game one by a 15-2 score in five frames, while TV downed Blue Elks by a 19-8 score also shortened to five innings.

Former Squaw Harvey wins MVP at Champions Meet

    FORT WAYNE—If track experts in Ohio and Michigan had never heard of Bellmont's Alexis Harvey, they have now after her Saturday performance at the 39th annual Midwest Meet of Champions at Northrop High School.
    Harvey placed first in two events and second in another in her three races at the meet which featured the many of the best recent graduating class athletes in the tri-state area and earned Harvey the "Star of the Stars" award for the meet.

    Recently graduated Bellmont track star Alexis Harvey has been selected to participate in the 39th annual Midwest Men and Women’s Meet of Champions tomorrow at Northrop High School’s Spuller Stadium starting at 12:30 p.m.

Five Pats highlight all-ACAC baseball selections

    The Heritage Patriots baseball squad ran away with the ACAC this season posting a 7-0 record to earn the title, and their excellence was rewarded by the conference with five members on the first and second teams.

Crusaders nab four in 6th; Lady Jets fall short, 4-2

    INDIANAPOLIS—In a familiar place at Ben Davis, Adams Central's Lady Jets softball team tried for a second time to bring home a 2A state title but came up short against Indianapolis Scecina in a tight battle, 4-2.
    In a virtual home game, the Lady Crusaders entered the contest after defeating the number one-ranked team in 2A, Evansville Mater Dei, by a 1-0 nothing score at the semi-state final.

Keaffaber shuts down AC in Kokomo semis, 5-1

    KOKOMO—About an hour away from their Lady Jet counter-parts battling for a 2A state title in softball, the men from Adams Central were in a struggle of their own to get back to the state title game for the first time since 2001.
    The Jets ran into a brick wall named Ryan Keaffaber, however, as the Northfield Norsemen ended Adams Central's fantastic road to the state title game in a 5-1 victory.

Huntington North, Leo latest additions to new NHC

    More alignment shifting was approved by the remaining six teams in the former Northeast Hoosier Conference on Thursday as the schools welcome Leo and Huntington North to the list coming in 2015-16.
    Norwell principal Mark Misch who is also the president of the NHC, made the announcement concerning more news on the yet-to-be-named conference coming in a few years.

Flying jets are regional champs!!!

    WHITING—Adams Central's varsity boys baseball team made the trek back to the most northwestern part of the state near Chicago once again on Monday night to finish what they started on Saturday in the regional baseball hosted at Oil City Stadium.
    While things got interesting down the stretch, it was the end result that mattered most as one fan shouted several times after the final out, "It was worth it!"

Squaws eye state track title

    In advance of Saturday's IHSAA state finals meet in girls track, pollsters finally did something that had been warranted all year and that was to put the Bellmont Squaws in the top 10 of the state.
    The message to other teams throughout Indiana is clear: that even though schools in northeast Indiana are without question the leader in the state in girls track, anyone who underestimates the ability of the Squaws will have to answer to Alexis Harvey, or Holly Hankenson, or Bailee Hankenson, or Emily Gunsett, or Bailey Beery.

Adams Central wins third title in four years, 10-4

    FORT WAYNE—The Jets won their third sectional in four years on Wednesday night when they posted a 10-4 victory over the Bishop Luers Knights at Indiana Tech Field.
    The Knights entered the game as the defending champs after topping South Adams in the championship last season. Luers had to go through the Stars again to get to the Jets as well as Eastside in the semis. AC topped Churubusco 13-10 in the second semi game on Tuesday night.
