MONROE—Adams Central coach Dave Neuenschwander said his squad's lone meeting with Bishop Luers each season, a final tune-up before sectional play begins next week, is a lot like this.
Well, maybe not exactly like Wednesday's contest, a game that saw both teams combine for 29 runs, 29 hits, five home runs and eight pitchers, five for Adams Central and three for Bishop Luers.
NEW HAVEN—Bellmont set the pace early for a dominating performance in the 2013 IHSAA girls sectional track meet Tuesday night at the Patrick D. Monaghan Track and Field Facility at New Haven High School and breezed its way to an easy team victory.
Claiming victory for the first time as a team since 2002, Bellmont was never seriously threatened on the night as the Squaws of Coach Carl Risch won eight of the 16 events and finished no worse than second in 13 of the 16 events.
MONROE—The Lady Jets improved to 14-6 on the season with an 11-1 win over the Lady Raiders at home on Monday night in a game that lasted just five innings.
With a 10-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Jets needed just one run to end the game in a 10-run mercy rule. They would get that one run on just one swing of the bat when Bess Fiechter singled, then stole second and third before reaching home on a wild pitch for the game-ending run.
MONROE—With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Jets' left fielder Matt Schwaller did what Adams Central has done well all season long, win games late.
Facing a full count and a 0-0 score, Schwaller blasted a walk-off solo homerun to lift the Jets to a victory over the visiting Churubusco Eagles, 1-0, in game one of their doubleheader.
