T-birds, Braves win Brickhouse tourneys

    The Decatur Thunderbirds team went 6-0 to win the Brickhouse Tournament in Monroe's 12-under division earlier this month, while the Decatur Braves' 9-under squad surprised the field by winning the 10-under division.

Adams County gears up for 2013 campaign with media day

    FORT WAYNE—There were over 35 schools present at the sixth annual Northeast Indiana Football Media Day held at North Side High School on Friday afternoon including all three Adams County representatives.
    Gathered in the school's cafeteria along side media members of the region, each team was assigned a table. Bellmont's representation was so large that the Carroll Chargers were forced to grab a few straggling chairs from another table to make room.

Four winners at Ethel May golf outing

   On Saturday, the Ladies Golf Association held their annual Ethel May Sanmann golf outing at Cross Creek Golf Course.
    The event went on despite a short rain delay and the ladies enjoyed their Florida scramble style nine holes nonetheless.

Bixler wins Cancer event

July 23, 2013

    A Cancer Shoot Out was held over the weekend at Cross Creek Golf Course to raise money for the fight for cancer.
    Officially named the 2013 Whitlock Shootout against Cancer, $665 was raised on Sunday to support the worthy cause. Mark Bixler was the overall winner of the event. Donations were made to Adams County Community Foundation, Dreams to Reality Fund at the Oncology unit, as well as the memorial to Burt and Mary Whitlock whom the tournament was named after.

Ahead of the Curb takes home Senior League crown

     Senior League Softball champions for 2013, Ahead of the Curb Driving Academy took the hard way through the playoffs coming through the loser's bracket.
    Eventually, however, the squad of girls overcame Barker's in the semi-finals, then defeated Mind's Eye Graphics twice on Thursday night to become league champions.

Clemente Skills Contest winners

The 2013 Clemente Skills Competition took place at Hanna Nuttman on Tuesday evening with several youngsters coming out to show off their talents on the ball diamond to end the DBA season.
    Among some of the events were a hitting, fielding, and baserunning competition.

BHS alumni soccer game slated for Wednesday

On Wednesday, the Bellmont girls soccer squad will be hosting the first annual BHS Girl's Soccer Alumni Game.
    Starting at 7 p.m. at the BHS Field, the game will feature the current Bellmont roster pitted against any alumni from years past. Coach Steve Lee noted that "there are many ways to participate as an alumni—as a player, a sponsor, or even just as a spectator."

Master's takes Reese championship

     In another lopsided affair Wednesday night, Master's Heating and Air was a big winner in five frames over Decatur Dental Services, 10-0, for the Reese League title.
    Cam Voglewede was stellar again facing only 19 batters in five innings. He struck out 12 of them while walking one and allowing just two hits in the complete game victory. Johnathon Wilder was the losing pitcher throwing 1.2 innings, while Aaron Lehrman relieved for 3.1 frames.

    Master's Heating and Air toppled Arnold's Construction by an 11-3 tally during Tuesday night's semi-final match of Reese play.

The Cooperstown Kids share their experience, part II

    Just like T-Birds coach Bobby Corral, I was never a big fan of travel ball in general, and the Cooperstown Dreams Park experience in particular. After spending a week at the Cooperstown Dream Park, like Corral, I've changed my opinion.
    The Decatur Thunderbirds have competed together for three years, learning about leadoffs and pitching from the stretch, and being part of a team. They did this while competing in house ball, fulfilling all their obligations along the way. Manager John Macklin and his coaching staff made sure of that.
