Squaws hold on in seventh, ride Wilder to 3-2 win

April 30, 2013

For the first time in over a decade, Bellmont defeated Homestead on the softball pitch.
    It sure didn't come easy.
Nursing a two-run lead heading into the seventh inning, Bellmont allowed Homestead to load the bases and send a run home before registering an out but managed to hold on to win by a score of 3-2 for their first conference victory of the season.
Bellmont moved to 2-7 overall after picking up their first win of the season over North Side last week.

Short-handed Squaws take 2nd at Relays

April 29, 2013

KENDALLVILLE—Bellmont placed third or better in five of the six relays Saturday in the annual John Reed Relays held at East Noble High School and the Squaws finished the day in second place out of a 13-team field.
Several scoring snafus, however, nearly cost the Squaws that position as DeKalb was originally listed in second behind team winner Columbia City with the Squaws a close third.

Warriors complete comeback with run in extras, 7-6

April 27, 2013

WOODBURN—In the battle of two teams struggling for wins, Woodlan snuck out a home victory on the strength of a ninth inning wild pitch that scored the Ben Schwartz from third base for a 7-6 Warrior victory.
Schwartz, a freshman, was not even supposed to bat in the game as he was simply a pinch runner for junior Garrett VanBrocklin in the bottom of the seventh inning. When the Warriors managed to tie the game with a run in their half of the seventh, VanBrocklin could not reenter because he had already been subbed for twice.

Squaws’ fourth inning surge key in first win, 9-4

April 25, 2013

Bellmont used a seven-run fourth inning to boost their way to their first win of the season against the North Side Redskins on Thursday night at the Teepee, 9-4.
Bellmont, now 1-6, has been slowly progressing at the plate starting the year with double digit strikeouts in games but fell only twice on strikes against the Redskins' pitcher, Kailee Stuller, who went six innings in a losing cause.

Woodlan posts wins against AC despite soggy fields

April 24, 2013

MONROE—It was gloom and doom for the Jets on their home field Tuesday night as Adams Central suffered their first loss of the season hosting the Woodlan Warriors in a losing battle, 11-1.
The Warriors avenged a six-inning loss to the Jets two weeks back amidst the rainy conditions when AC won by the same score on Woodlan's field.

Squaws comeback thrwarted by Lady Eagles in ninth, 9-8

April 22, 2013

Bellmont's five-run seventh inning seemed to be one run short as the scoreboard read 9-8 and Columbia City and their coaches began to form the line for handshakes on Monday night.
Suddenly, the home plate official motioned to the press box signaling that the score was incorrect and that the game was actually tied 8-8. After some number checking and plenty of mixed emotions from the stands, the teams went back to their dugouts for extra softball.
