Adams County will have six solid representatives, including returning placers Sawyer Miller of South Adams and Bellmont senior Brad Busse, in Friday night's preliminary round of the IHSAA State Wrestling Tournament.
Busse, seventh last year at 182 pounds, returns to that weight as a senior and will go in again as a semi-state champ. Miller took fourth as a freshman at 106 pounds and will be in the 113-pound class, coming in as a third-placer from Fort Wayne.

FORT WAYNE—Blackhawk Christian won the battle of the Braves on Tuesday night defending their home court on senior night against Bellmont, 45-40 in a non-conference game of round ball.

Cody Walburn may have had a premonition about his first round foe at the 75th annual IHSAA State Wrestling Finals.
"Brandon James finished third at New Castle," Walburn noted Saturday after he finished second at the Fort Wayne Semistate 126-pound division. Seconds and thirds square off Friday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in the preliminary round. Winners move on and place on Saturday, losers head to the seats.

FORT WAYNE — "I like where Im at right now. Things are working," stated Bellmont senior Brad Busse after accepting his first place award for a second straight 182-pound semistate wrestling title Saturday night.
For the third straight week, Busse turned back Adams Central standout Ben Pfister, scoring a second period fall, but both will go to the show next Friday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis as part of a six-man county contingent, including three from Adams Central.

BLUFFTON—The Lady Stars proved Friday night in the sectional semi-finals that early starts aren't always the key to success in basketball.
Despite going scoreless after one quarter, South Adams topped Churubusco 34-25 at Bluffton High School to move on to the sectional finals tonight against Bishop Luers who are seeking their sixth straight title, 20th overall.
In fact, Luers has won 13 of the last 15 sectional championships.

Bellmont came a few free throws short of upsetting DeKalb at the Teepee on Thursday night as the Barons escaped with a 65-61 win over the Braves in NHC action.
The Braves were down by as many as 10 points early in the fourth quarter but some gutsy baskets kept the game interesting down the stretch including a basket plus the foul for Logan Baker that cut the lead to five points at 51-46.
Bellmont's contingent for Saturday's Fort Wayne Snider Wrestling Semistate was boosted from three to four this week when Union City's Connor Wyatt pulled out because of injury at 152 pounds, putting the Braves' Logan Neher back in the field. Neher earned alternate status as he wrestled back to fifth place at Jay.
"We had five guys wrestle back for fifth, and Neher gets to go, so I guess the alternate thing worked out for us," stated Bellmont coach Brent Faurote.
