The South Adams Starfires’ upset victory over county rival Adams Central in sectional football play on Nov. 1, coupled with the untimely exit from the tournament trail the following day of the Bellmont volleyball squad, leaves South Adams as the last fan base standing in Adams County. Those fans are certain to be vocal when the Stars travel to Southwood Friday night for the sectional title game.

SUGAR GROVE, IL – The Ancilla College women’s basketball team opened their season at the Waubonsee Classic, where they were defeated by Waubonsee Community College and Kennedy-King College.
Friday night, the Chargers faced the Chiefs of WCC, in a back and forth battle that resulted in a 20-20 tie at halftime. The Chiefs’ offense, however, proved to be overpowering in the second half, scoring 43 points and defeating Ancilla with a final score of 63-49.
THE ROYAL TREATMENT—Bellmont’s volleyball team gathered on the bus before departure Saturday morning to Plymouth HS. Decatur police escorted the bus through town to add to the excitement. The team ventured to semi-state play where they lost to #1 Mishawaka Marian. (Photo provided)
TERRE HAUTE—Solid performances were turned in Saturday by both Bellmont runner Bailey Beery and the SA boys cross country team at the annual IHSAA cross country state finals meet at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course located near the Indiana State University campus.
BERNE — South Adams took advantage of some breaks on its final drive, but made some big plays, including a 33-yard touchdown pass and a two-point conversion, then Isaiah Amtstutz snuffed out the Jets' final effort with an interception in the end zone as the host Starfires stunned Adams Central 14-13 in the semi-final round of Sectional 43 action Friday night.
The win avenged an earlier 32-22 loss to the Jets, and puts the 4-7 Starfires in the sectional title game this Friday at Southwood, a 42-22 winner over Southern Wells.
