It wasn't weather that delayed Bellmont's win over DeKalb on Friday night, unless you count the raining flags on the field as the Braves ran away with a 62-27 win over the reeling Barons at Worthman Stadium.
Between the two teams there were a total of 21 penalties adding up to a total of 187 yards in miscues. Sprinkle in a few injury timeouts as well as 988 yards of total offense between both teams and the game-time length ended up at three hours.
Tonight is the final home game of the regular season for the Braves as they host DeKalb with a kick-off of 7 p.m. The game will be webcasted beginning with the pre-game at 6:40 p.m. To view the game, simply click on the link below, then log in with a username and password. MONROEVILLE— The Lady Jets were contested at every turn on Thursday night but a pair of three set thrillers at Heritage ended with Adams Central completing the sweep of the ACAC tournament title.
AC, the regular season ACAC champions, entered the semi-finals on the strength of a dominant performance against Woodlan on Tuesday, then defeated Leo 25-21, 23-25, 25-19 to set up a finals confrontation with the host school Patriots.
The Braves struck early and often in their first round sectional game against Norwell Wednesday night at home using an explosive offensive attack to score a win, 5-0.
The win over their NHC rivals launches Bellmont into the sectional championship Friday against South Side who defeated Wayne in the second game on Wednesday night.
We're into week five of the Pigskin Picks and once again there was not a single perfect bracket to be found. The magic number this week was 48 points between Alabama and Georgia State. Titus Schwartz managed to get the closest missing only the IU/Penn State game and ending with a score of 65 points. In second was Ronda Cowans also missing the Penn State upset and guessing 83 points. In third was Dennis McBarnes who missed two with a score of 47 points. Coach Baker, you really let me down this week!
MONROE— South Adams secured their slot atop the ACAC cross country standings with scary ease on Tuesday night downing the competition by a staggering 40 point difference.
The Berne boys finished with 17 points taking the top three spots as well as fifth, sixth, eighth, and 24th place dominating the field.
KINGSLAND— It took a few rain dates to accomplish but the Adams Central Jets have repeated as sectional tennis champs with a win over the Braves, 4-1.
The Jets downed Bellmont for the second year in a row in the finals Monday evening at Norwell to earn just their third sectional title in school history after breaking a long spell last season and their first in 1997.
"Our guys are really playing their best tennis right now," explained AC coach Michael Hower.
FORT WAYNE—Bellmont girls cross country coach Carl Risch will freely admit to anyone who wants to listen that he believes Bailey Beery, a sophomore on his team this year, is one of the top "5-10 runners in the state."
Beery solidly backed up that statement Saturday in the annual Northeast Hoosier Conference cross country meet winning the girls race by sloshing her way to an 18:30.4 finish in an event mired by driving rain and mud.
PONETO — In a game that had six touchdown plays covering 10 yards or more, it was a fourth down run up the middle by Adams Central's Kyle Baker that put the Jets in control in a 42-26 win over Southern Wells Friday night.
On fourth down and four yards to go at the Raiders' 44-yard line and the Jets' punter Alex Byerly in formation, Baker took a direct snap and barreled straight ahead, knocking over four Southern Wells defenders on a 29-yard spurt that ended on the 15-yard line.
Tonight's contest between the visiting New Haven Bulldogs and the Bellmont Braves will begin at approximately 7 p.m. The pre-game show will start around 6:40 for the Braves' homecoming game.
