Fans watching the IHSAA girls cross country sectional race at Bellmont Tuesday afternoon wondered for a period of time if the final 67 runners had gotten lost on the back portion of the 5K course.
As expected, Bellmont's Bailey Beery pounded out a blistering 18:21.4 finish which not only was good for first place but also shattered the Bellmont course record set in 2008 by DeKalb's Autumn Beachy of 18:34.
Dennis McBarnes was the clear winner this week for Pigskin Picks missing just the Houston/St. Louis game and was one off of the tie-breaker point total of 48 points. With three contestants tying at -1 (45) points and only two prize spots available, the second tie-breaker was a blind draw to determine who would win second and third place. Greg Coyne was picked for second place and Kenny Grim earned third place with the next draw. Joyce Schultz was the unlucky entrant left just out of the prizes. :(
