Lady Jets earn first victory, 33-27

November 28, 2012

MONROE—Adams Central doubled up Churubusco in the second half erasing a six-point halftime deficit in their first win of the season, 33-27.
The Lady Jets used a 24-12 advantage in the final two quarters to extract revenge on the Lady Eagles who knocked AC out of the sectionals last season.
With two minutes left in the second quarter, the Lady Jets faced a 15-5 deficit, the biggest of the game for either team. Up until that point, AC was shooting 1-15 from the floor and simply could not buy a basket.

Young Braves go 3-2 at Yorktown Duals

November 26, 2012

YORKTOWN — “If that’s the best team in 3A, and we’ve got (Brad) Busse in the lineup, you’re looking at maybe a two or three-point match today. We wrestled well enough to stay with them,” stated Bellmont wrestling coach Brent Faurote Saturday afternoon following Bellmont’s 41-27 loss to 3A No. 1 Yorktown in the final round of the annual Yorktown Thanksgiving Duals.

Vanmeter's 2nd half surge pushes Norwell past Jets

November 26, 2012

KINGSLAND—Norwell senior Josh Vanmeter put up 20 of his 24 points on the Jets in the second half to lead the Knights past the Jets at the Castle on Saturday night, 77-42.
Vanmeter made the opening field goal straight off the tip cashing in on a driving lay-up but then Norwell went cold for the next four minutes. Adams Central took advantage of several Knights’ miscues jumping out to a 12-2 lead before Vanmeter would break the four-minute slump with a smooth drive and score.

Young Braves fall to athletic Generals; Stars and Jets win

November 21, 2012

The Wayne Generals came calling at the Teepee Wednesday in the traditional season opening game between the Generals and the Bellmont Braves and with the exception of a quick turnover to start the game and another quick miscue to start the third period, Wayne did little wrong enroute to hammering out a 75-45 victory over the Braves.

Braves open season with win over Col. City

November 21, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — Despite offering one of the the youngest and most inexperienced opening meet lineups in his 25 years as the Bellmont head wrestling coach, Brent Faurote was smiling after the meet as his Braves rocked NHC foe Columbia City 51-19 Tuesday.
"Four freshmen in the lineup and three of them go out and get wins. That's not going to happen a lot this year, but there will be times when we do have three or four freshmen in the lineup," said Faurote.

Free throws doom Squaws late

November 19, 2012

The lid on the Bellmont basket that had earlier in the game been receptive to cashing in free throws closed tight in the final minutes of Saturday night's non-conference girls varsity basketball game with Heritage as the Squaws missed eight of their final nine tries in the fourth quarter and Heritage escaped with a 52-43 win.

Squaw turnovers lead to Jay County double up, 41-20

November 17, 2012

PORTLAND—Jay County jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after five Bellmont turnovers in the first two and a half minutes of the game and never looked back cruising to a 41-20 non-conference home win over the Squaws.
So dominant were the Patriots is evidenced by the fact they always led by a margin that was at least double what Bellmont had on the board.

Blackhawk dumps Lady Jets in opener

November 17, 2012

FORT WAYNE—Two weeks into the girls basketball season, the Lady Jets played their first game.
Such is the penalty for a regional volleyball title as a slightly rusty Adams Central squad fell to an athletic Blackhawk Christian team 42-33 on Friday night.
The Lady Braves, now 2-2, clearly had a grasp on the game plan. Get the ball to 6'1" Brittney Chalfant.

Squaw-fish outswim Dwenger, Luers

November 16, 2012

In last weekend’s Norwell Invitational, Bishop Dwenger finished in second place and Bellmont in fourth, leading Bellmont coach Drew Norby to have an idea of how Thursday’s dual meet would go against Bishop Dwenger and Bishop Luers.
As it turned out, Norby had no idea.
Bellmont won the meet by three points against Bishop Dwenger, 134-131, and Bishop Luers came in third with 63 points.
