For Adams Central, 2012 collided with 1964 and 1966 last night.
This year's Flying Jets tied the school record for season victories at 19 with a stirring and dominant 74-62 conquest of Bishop Luers in the Class 2A sectional title game at South Adams. AC (19-3) also posted 19 wins in the 1963-64 and 1965-66 seasons, under coach Vernon Zurcher and including the school's first 1,000-point scorer, Roger Schnepp.
Bellmont senior Allison Gutierrez has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Indiana University East starting with the 2012 season. Red Wolves coach Charlie Brown announced the signing Feb. 29.
Gutierrez is a 5-6 defensive specialist who helped Bellmont High School win the 2010 Indiana Class 3A state championship. She was an honorable mention academic all-state selection and an all-conference libero as a senior. She ranked 13th in the state with 4.5 digs per game, according to the MaxPreps Web site.

The Northeast Hoosier Conference has announced its boys basketball conference squads for the 2011-12 year with two Braves making the list.
Homestead, who finished unblemished in the conference, placed two players on the first team, Nick Gamble and Zach Terrell, as did fellow conference teams New Haven, Columbia City, and Norwell (Kyle Fillman and Josh VanMeter) who all finished at the top of the standings. Carroll (freshman Chandler White) and DeKalb put one player each on to round out the first team.
BERNE— Senior Maverick Baumer and junior Dalton Combs both put up 20+ points for the Jets in their sectional final win against the Bishop Luers Knights held at the Stardome on Monday night, 74-62, earning them the right to cut down the nets.
The IHSAA girls' basketball state tournament wrapped up this weekend with three of the eight teams representing four classes were from Fort Wayne, two games were decided by overtime, and one was ended on a dramatic last-second shot.
In 1A, Canterbury won their fourth state title in five years by defeating Northeast Dubois, 64-54, and finished with a stellar 25-2 record on the season.

BERNE—Thirty-nine for Adams Central meant 100 for Aaron McClure.
In the opening game of the South Adams 2A sectional on Tuesday, the Flying Jets became the Grinding Jets as they played down to the much more deliberate, defensive-oriented style of Churubusco and pulled out a 39-34 victory.
The win not only propelled the Jets into Friday's semi-final contest against the hosting Starfires, but also gave AC head coach McClure the 100th W of an 11-year career at his alma mater.

GREENWOOD — "I'm pleased that we got here this year, but it's always disappointing to walk out of here one match away from getting medals," stated a disappointed Bellmont wrestling coach Brent Faurote as his Braves were taken out by state rival Evansville Mater Dei in the first round of the final Team State Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Center Grove, 45-21.
How do you get 16 wins, tied for third-best in school history, with a good chance of reaching a school-best 20 wins or more?
The Adams Central way is this way, says coach Aaron McClure, as he and many others eagerly anticipate the South Adams 2A sectional:
(1) Having "six starters," with the regular rotation of seniors Maverick Baumer, Ben Snider, Kyle Fawcett, and Keaton Fiechter plus junior Dalton Combs as well as virtual starter junior Isaac Luginbill.

"They're solid, but they're not the Mater Dei team of the 90s or early 2000s when they ran that streak of nine consecutive titles," stated Bellmont coach Brent Faurote, whose 21-5 Bellmont squad will square off with the 22-0 Wildcats Saturday at Center Grove High School in the final Indiana Team State Wrestling Tournament.
