Strong early season cross country performances at the Bellmont Invitational found Bellmont and South Adams winning team titles Tuesday evening in the girls and boys meet respectively.
"I knew we were in the hunt for the title. I wasn't sure we had won but knew it would be very close," related Bellmont coach Carl Risch as meet officials totaled up the points for the 11 teams in the girls' field and found Bellmont had 57 points compared to Jay County's 59 and Leo's 65.
The Squaws hosted the Lady Starfires on the soccer pitch Tuesday night and got a scare put into them when SA scored the first goal.
It would turn out to be their only score of the contest, as Bellmont put up six unanswered goals after that, three in each half, to defeat South Adams, 6-1 at the Teepee.
In a match that featured a "to be continued" Bellmont finally defeated the Bluffton Tigers, 3-2 on Monday night at the Teepee after initially starting the match on Thursday night.
Postponed due to rain, the Braves picked up right where they left off last night with the singles players picking up big wins.
