Bellmont traveled to Star Field to take on South Adams in a cross-county battle of the pitch Thursday night and the trip proved to be beneficial for the Braves as they picked up their second win of the year in a 5-0 decision.
The score was 1-0 heading into halftime with the Stars very much in the mix, but coach Jake Briede's Braves kicked it into gear netting four more strikes before the final horn sounded.
Brian Hakes, an all-state baseball and football player during his recently-concluded career at Bellmont High School, has accepted a scholarship to play baseball at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne.
A three-year starter as both a catcher and third baseman for the Braves, Hakes led the team in most offensive categories the past two seasons.
He also was named all-state in hockey as a member of Team Indiana after playing four seasons in the Fort Wayne high school league as well as on several travel teams.
