May 29, 2012

Senior Matt Stidam capped a three-run fifth-inning rally with a clutch, two-run double, and Nick Fuelling's sixth-inning hit knocked in barreling baserunner Ben Baker with the key insurance run as Bellmont cut down rival Norwell 4-3 Monday to capture the 3A BHS Sectional Baseball championship.

May 29, 2012

FORT WAYNE—After defeating Churubusco with a pair of runs in the seventh inning of the sectional semi-final game at Indiana Tech earlier in the day, the Starfires ran out of magic and fell to the hosting Bishop Luers Knights, 6-3 in the title game on Memorial Day evening.

—Bellmont played for their playoff lives on Friday night against the Heritage Patriots in the baseball sectional semi-final game held at the Teepee pulling out a 4-3 victory against their foes.
Bellmont coach Ben Fawbush commented on his tough Heritage opponents, "I don't know what it is about these guys. We come out against Mississinewa and pound the ball and I didn't think this guy (Conner Sheehan) was any better than what we saw the other day and we couldn't hit consistently."

Stars move past Jets in sectional

May 24, 2012

FORT WAYNE— A year removed from Adams Central's back-to-back sectional titles, the Jets made an early exit from the tournament last night at the hands of the South Adams Starfires, 8-5.
The Jets were the team favored to win the sectional this season but perhaps those who assumed that should have looked at this season's resume where the Stars have had AC's number two times before last night and picked up right where they left off.

Lady Jets win first sectional title

May 24, 2012

BUTLER—A day after taking out their Adams County foe, the Lady Jets topped that feat with an even greater one: winning their first sectional title ever.
It took extra innings to do, but the Jets managed to squeak by a talented Bishop Luers team in eight innings, 3-2, after a Lindsey McDougall RBI single ended the game in walk-off fashion for AC.

Lady Jets top Stars; make sectional finals

May 23, 2012

BUTLER— South Adams had hoped that the third time would be the charm on Tuesday night at Eastside as they played the Lady Jets for a third time this season but fell after a fifth inning meltdown, 7-2.
Perhaps a better phrase for SA would be, "bad things come in threes."
AC got the best of the Lady Stars in a 5-4 contest early in the season and then during ACAC play, the Jets unloaded in a similar fashion knocking off SA, 7-1 earlier in May.
